Minutes of Meeting
November 21, 2002
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on November 21, 2002 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell Texas. The following members were present; Julia
Petty, Chair, Lisa Cunov, John Dobson, Judi Smith, Steven Smith, and Rene Lawson. City of Coppell Liaison:
Amanda Vanhoozier, Colnmumty Programs Coordinator. Not Present: John Valentine, co-chair.
Item 1: Call to Order - Julia Petty called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm

Swearing in of Rene Lawson by Newly elected Chairperson Rene
Lawson, as appointed by the city of Coppell City Council, was sworn in by
Julia Petty, Chair.
Consider approval of Minutes, October 17, 2002 Minutes approved as
written. (6-0)
Citizen's Forum. No citizens were present.

Consider approval of the Annual Work Plan for 2002-2003 - The
committee discussed each goal from Keep Texas Beautiful. They
considered Education and Litter Prevention/Clean-ups to be high priorities.
The committee approved the work plan with the addition of the following
objectives: (6-0)
-To elevate awareness of recycling in the community through education of
youth.
-To increase public awareness with a new logo for Keep Coppell
Beautiful.
-To increase participation in the Adopt-a-Location program and develop a
system of enforcement and recognition of participating groups.
-To encourage the planting of trees by passing out tree seedlings to fifth
graders at the Arbor Day Poster Contest Workshop in January.
-To develop a recommendation to council for curbside collection of yard
trimmings diverting them from the landfill to a compost facility.
Consider approval of the Keep Coppell Beautiful Logo- Steven Smith
brought in eight logo designs that the art director at Temerlin McClain
graciously donated her time and talents to develop. The committee
discussed the use of the logo, the effectiveness of the message, and the
ability to reproduce. The committee approved the design with the tree on
the left, writing to the right, and a blue water line at the bottom. (6-0)
Julia will follow up with a letter of appreciation to the art director.
Item 7:
Consider approval of cancellation of KCB meeting, December 19,
2002- The committee approved the cancellation of December 19th meeting.
Amanda will get information out to the committee about the Arbor Day
Poster Workshop, which will be held before the January 16, 2003 meeting.
Item 8:
Discussion of Forever Green-Holiday Tree Recycling and Computer
Recycling- Amanda reported that there will be a mini event on January 4,
2003 with a mulch day, computer recycling collection and the Master
Composters providing education on the benefits of mulch. A coupon will
be in the water bill that is a ten dollar value for obtaining the mulch on that
day.
Item 9:
Discussion of KTB quilt square. The committee discussed the use of the
new KCB logo on the quilt square for the Keep Texas Beautiful quilt. Lisa
Cunov offered to take the instructions, logo, and material square to the
Coppell Senior Center to have them be involved in the making of the
square.
Item 10:
New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda -
-Annual Plan with new objectives
-Quilt square for KTB
-Evaluation report on the For Ever Green program
-Clean Coppell planning
-Adopt-a-Location program organization.
