Minutes of Meeting
July 10, 2003
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on July 10, 2003 at 7pm in the Conference Room at
the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell Texas. The following members were
present Julia Petty, Chair, John Valentine, Co-chair, John Dobson, and Steven Smith. City of
Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Not Present: Lisa
Cunov, Judi Smith, Rene Lawson
Item 1: Call to Order - Julia Petty called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm
Item 2: Consider approval of Minutes, May 15, 2003 Minutes approved as written. (4-0)
Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens were present.
Item 4: Consider Approval of Adopt a Location Agreement with EveryBody Fits-The
committee approved accepting EveryBody Fits as a Adopt a Location for a high
priority location. (4-0)
Item 5: Discussion on status and strategy for Adopt a Location Program- John Valentine
outlined the program's strengths, objectives, needs, and challenges through a power
point presentation. An action plan was introduced and the committee discussed the
plan. They wanted John to continue refining the approach presented and bring it to
the next meeting with the tasks outlined for assignments.
Item 6: Discussion on status and strategy for Yard Trimming Recycling-The committee
discussed pursuing the questions for the city attorney on the solid waste contract.
They also discussed putting the options in a power point for the next meeting to
begin preparing a presentation for city council.
Item 7: Discussion on Computer Recycling Collections-Amanda informed the committee that
the computer recycling company, Software, Ect. had gone out of business. John
Dobson will call some other companies to find a replacement for future KCB
Computer Recycling Collections.
Item 8: Discussion on by-laws for the Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee- The committee
reviewed a draft of new by-laws. They discussed the attendance of the meetings in
view of the 25% attendance to also include the outside activities and events in the
community. The members were asked to read the draft and make comments on
changes, before the next meeting.
Item 9: Fourth of July Parade Review- Everyone on the KCB Committee was in the parade.
They discussed reaching a large number of people with the recycling entry and the
attraction of the "Just Recycled" sign on the back of the WM recycling truck. The
litter from all the candy throw was also a concern from the KCB standpoint.
New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda: Yard Trimmings Recycling, Computer
Recycling Collection, Adopt a Location Action Plan
