Minutes of Meeting
May 15, 2003
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on May 15, 2003 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell Texas. The following members were present Julia
Petty, Chair, John Valentine, Co-chair, Judi Smith, John Dobson, Rene Lawson and Steven Smith. City of
Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Commumty Programs Coordinator. Not Present: Lisa Cunov
Item 1: Call to Order - Julia Petty called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm
Item 2: Consider approval of Minutes, April 17, 2003 Minutes approved as written.

Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens were present.
Item 4: Consider Approval of the summer meeting schedule - The committee tabled
Item 4 to follow Item 8.
Item 5: Consider approval of new Adopt- a -Location Pick-up Date. - The
committee approved May 17th and August 16th, both at 8:30 am, to be the
next two litter pick-ups along Beltline Rd.
Item 6: Consider Approval of the City Council Work Session Presentation on
Recycling Yard Trimmings.- The committee tabled this item until further
definition and clarification were made to the presentation before making a
recommendation to City Council.
Item 7: Discussion on Adopt-a-Location status and strategy for motivation- The
committee will send a quarterly email with a pick-up reminder and update on
the success of the program. John Valentine will compose the letter. John
Valentine will also make a presentation, as to the status and strategies, at the
next meeting.
Item 8: Discussion on curbside recycling awareness. - The committee discussed
having an entry in the Fourth of July parade pertaining to recycling. They
will use the WM Recycle Truck, if available, and tie recyclables to drag
behind. The Use your Bin and Recycle banners will be used on the sides of
the truck, with a sign, "Just Recycled" on the back.
Item 4: Consider Approval of the summer meeting schedule- The committee
approved cancellation of the June 19, 2003 meeting and rescheduling the
next meeting to July 10, 2003.
Item 9: City Staff Report - Amanda Vanhoozier reported that the Clean Coppell Litter
Getter Winner, Town Center Elementary, would be presented with the
Abitibi Consolidated check and certificate on June 6, 2003 at 8:30am. She
also reported that the Earthkind Camp for elementary students would be held
June 16-20, 2003 at Helping Hands Garden.
New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda: Update to the Yard Trimmings
Recycling, Computer Recycling Collection.
