Minutes of Meeting
August 21, 2003
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on August 21, 2003 at 7pm in the Conference Room
at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell Texas. The following members were
present Julia Petty, Chair, John Valentine, Co-chair, John Dobson, Lisa Cunov ,and Rene Lawson.
City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Not Present:
Judi Smith, Steve Smith.
Item 1: Call to Order - Julia Petty called the meeting to order at 7:06 PM
Item 2: Consider approval of Minutes, July 10, 2003 Minutes approved as written. (5-0)
Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens were present.
Item 4: Approval of the Adopt a Location Program Action Plan -John Valentine presented
the proposed plan for the AAL sections that were in more manageable sizes. He
outlined the as a systematic approach with recognition and incentives to bring pride
in the community and for the AAL groups. John will target organizations and
businesses to expand the number of groups that participate. The committee tabled
the plan for the next meeting.
Item 5: Approval of the Curbside Yard Trimming Recycling Recommendation to Council -
The committee approved the curbside Yard Trimmings Recycling
Recommendation to City Council with the adjustments that they made at the
meeting. (5-0).
Item 6: Approval of the By-Laws for Keep Coppell Beautiful-The committee approved the
By-Laws for the Keep Coppell Beautiful committee with the changes to exclude the
outside activities and events in the attendance section, and to also add "Maintain the
AAL Program to perpetuate its benefits throughout the community" as a Power and
Duty of the committee. (5-0)
Item 7: Discussion on Computer Recycling Collections-John Dobson presented a table of
information he gathered from researching the Computer Recyclers. Amanda will
visit with the Dallas Computer Parts about more specifics about their computer
recycling methods.
Item 8: City Staff Report- Amanda reported that the Coppell Community Garden was
surpassing the goal of donating 8,000 pounds this year to the food pantry. The
Texas SmartScape Recognition will be presented to five citizens at the Water
Conservation Day. Everyone was invited to the Water Conservation Day for
landscape tours and classes. The Wildflower Seeding will be at the Moore Rd. Park
on Sept. 27th to overseed and expand the area that was planted last year.
New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda: Yard Trimmings Recycling, Adopt a
Location Action Plan with targeted organizations.
