Minutes of Meeting
October 16, 2003
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on October 16, 2003 at 7pm in the Conference Room
at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell Texas. The following members were
present John Valentine, John Dobson, Lisa Cunov, Rene Lawson, Julie Basham, Karen Smith, Jane
Filarowicz, City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator.
Item 1: Call to Order -John Valentine called the meeting to order at 7:04 PM
Item 2: Election of Committee Chair and Co-Chair. Committe members introduced themselves.
The committee unanimously voted John Valentine as Chair and Lisa Cunov as Co-Chair.
Item 3: Consider approval of Minutes, September 18, 2003. Minutes approved as written. (7-0)
Item 4: Citizen's Forum. George ICing 332 Timbers Ridge Lane.
Item 5: Keep Coppell Beautiful Orientation. Amanda Vanhoozier presented the orientation for
the new members, went over notebooks, and specified the importance of attending
scheduled meetings to make quorums. Amanda also went over history and events that
take place with Keep Coppell Beautiful.
Item 6: Discussion and consider approval of Adopt-a-Location Assignments. John Valentine
presented a map of Coppell divided into sections. Committee members were assigned
sections were they will focus on the volunteer groups to improve pickups and recruit
groups to be a part of their Adopt-a-Location section. Committee approved assigned
Adopt-a-Location sections. (7-0)
Item 7: Annual Work Plan Evaluation for 02-03 and Recommendations for 03-04. Amanda
Vanhoozier went over the work plan for 02-03 and decided for 03-04 the committee
should promote clean up with awards, etc. The committee will have teen involvement
with the new curriculum the students have to follow for community service hours.
Keep Coppell Beautiful will be allowed one Grant for the year. John Dodson
requested a calendar of events for 02-03. No recommendations for 03-04 goals were
made until the next meeting.
Item 8: Discussion on Residential Yard Trimming Recycling. Lisa Cunov made a presentation
in front of City Council about Yard Trimming Recycling. Amanda Vanhoozier stated
that City Managers is working on negotiating yard trimmings. Karen Smith suggested
going to companies that do the yard trimming and ask them to recycle. John Valentine
said the best target would be the Homeowners Association.
Item 9: Community Program Report. Wildflower Seeding took place at Andrew Brown East;
flowers are expected to bloom next spring. Coppell Recycle booth took place last
weekend; many recycle bins and Coppell Recycles brochures were handed out to
promote Keep Coppell Beautiful. Master Composter's Seminar will be October 23-
25m.
