BM 2004-02-19 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting February 19, 2004 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on February 19, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell, Texas. The following members were present Lisa Cunov, Sharon Landers, Rene Lawson, I4zaren Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Julie Basham, City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Item 1: Call to Order - Lisa Cunov called meeting to order 7:10pm. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, Minutes approved as written. (6-0) Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present. Item 4: Swearing in of new KCB Committee Member, Sharon Lander. Item was tabled, Sharon resigned as a member of KCB due to her moving away from Coppell. Item 5: Discussion and consider approval for submission of the Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community Achievement Award. Committee discussed duties and accomplishments that would be needed for the award. Amanda V. has a tape and background information for the award. Rene Lawson suggested there be a subcommittee to work on the award. Julie B. motioned that award is accepted have Karen S. to manage the project, Lisa C., Jane F. and Julie B. work with Amanda as a subcommittee, and have Karen assign tasks for members on the March agenda. Motion approved. (6-0) Item 6: Discussion and consider approval of KCB Adopt-a-Location for 2004. Julie B. moved that KCB sign up for Adopt-a-Location to clean up the area of Beltline Rd. from Denton Tap to Moore Rd. Motion approved. (6-0) Item 7: Discussion and consider approval of Keep America Beautiful Litter Index date. Amanda V. explained what the Keep America Litter Index is. Committee discussed of possible dates to for Litter Index and approved the date of March 27 at 9:00 a.m.; everyone is to meet at the Service Center. (6-0) Item 8: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program Status. Amanda reported that engineering is providing a map of all locations and marking the ones that have been assigned in red. Amanda also requested that Adopt-a-location groups pre-register for Clean Coppell. Committee agreed that registrations should be emailed to groups and have committee members followed up with groups. Karen S. suggested we get a list of businesses in Coppell and send them letters to join Adopt-a-location. Lisa C. suggested the H©A's be contacted. Item 9: Discussion of Residential Yard Trimmings Recycling Status and Promotional Ideas. Amanda said Grant had been approved, funding will not begin until March 15. Graphic artist is needs to be contacted to begin design. Logo will be used on all fliers and brochures. KCB won a yard vac and Amanda would like to use it as a price to promote yard trimmings. Sharon L. suggested residents include their address on the recycling bags to enter in the drawing. Committee agreed to have residents write their names on a piece of paper and attach it to their bags. Jane F. suggested the drawing should be done during the July 4 event. Amanda will bring drafts of fliers and brochures for approval in the next meeting. Item 10: Discussion of Green Purchasing Focus. Committee members discussed possible ways to promote Green Purchasing. Julie B. suggested to put facts about Green Purchasing in the waterbill insert. Rene L. suggested having an information package for the teachers to inform students. Item 11: Discussion of Clean Coppell Earthfest 2004. Amanda went over the duties for KCB during the Clean Coppell event. Lisa C. will contact PTAs and PTO's to enter for the $250 trash pick up prize. Julie B.,Jane F., Lisa C., will help assemble bags for Adopt-a-Location clean up crews for Clean Coppell. Date will be decided on next meeting. Item 12: Community Programs Report. Amanda V. reported that Community Garden had 60 new sign ups, the orientation for the new members will be held on Saturday. The Master Composter Seminar will be held on February 26~h and 27% Texas Smartscape will have a class on March 11, 2004. New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda: Draft Brochures and Fliers for Yard Trimming Recycling Promotional Champaign Pick Dates for assembly of Clean Coppell pre registration bags Governor's Community Achievement Award Status ADJOURNED Meeting adjourned at 8:35pm.
