RE 10-08-96.1 RESOLUTION NO. 100896.1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR THE TRAINING OF NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS OF THE CITY OF COPPELL; ENCOURAGING MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO PARTICIPATE IN TRAINING PROGRAMS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Coppell, Texas has many boards and commissions which are comprised of individual citizens, and which play an important role in the governing of the City; and WHEREAS, the members of the boards and commissions are appointed by the City Council; and WHEREAS, it is important for new board and commission members to be educated regarding board and commission procedures and practices, as well as the areas of local government which the board or commission will routinely face; and WHEREAS, it is especially important for new members of the City Council to have an understanding of zoning and land use planning, as they are an integral and complex part of governing a city; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That each citizen who is appointed to serve on a board or commission of the City of Coppell be required to attend one or more approved training sessions on board and commission procedures and/or other selected topics, unless said citizen has previously attended the same or similar training as that required. 1 30~6 SECTION 2. That the required training sessions to be attended by the citizens shall be selected and approved by the City Manager in consultation with the Mayor and City Council, and shall be of the nature of those offered by regional and national government councils, such as the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Southwest Legal Foundation, and the National League of Cities. SECTION 3. That the members of the City Council of the City of Coppell are encouraged to attend a training session on zoning and land use planning as selected by the City Manager, if said member has not previously attended training of this nature. SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately from and after its passage, and it is accordingly so resolved.
