Minutes of Meeting
March 18, 2004
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on March 18, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at
the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell, Texas. The following members were
present Rene Lawson, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, John Dobson, City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda
Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator.
Item 1: Call to Order -John Dobson called meeting to order 7:03pm.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, Minutes approved with a change. (4-0)
Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present.
Item 4: Consider Approval of Date Change in April. Committee approved to change the meeting
scheduled for April 15, 2004 to April 8, 2004. (4-0)
Item 5: Consider Approval for Clean Coppell Earthfest 2004 Tasks. Amanda V. Went over the
tasks for KCB during the Clean Coppell Event. Committee members are to arrive at
8:lSam and work the registration table. Members discussed of possible ways to make
the registration process for groups more convenient. Jane F. motioned to approve the
tasks Rene L. second to approve. (4-0)
Item 6: Discussion Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community Achievement Award
Application. Committee members asked Karen S. and Amanda V. any questions they
had regarding their duty for the Governor's Award. Karen S. suggested committee
members write down their extra hours spent outside of the meeting time for any
KCB matter and e-mail them to Cecilia G. to have for record. Karen S. would like to
have written work turned in to her by next Thursday so that it can be reviewed and be
assembled to be put in the supplemental section.
Item 7: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program Status. Amanda updated the committee
members on the Adopt-a-Location groups that still need to turn in their registration
forms. Jane F. recruited The Container Store as an AAL Group. John D. requested
that the unadopted AAL spots be placed on the Board Assignment Spreadsheet. Karen
S. suggested the AAL pre-registration form be posted on the city website and have an
AAL webpage.
Item 8: Discussion of Residential Yard Trimmings Recycling Promotional Campaign.
Amanda reported that the project funds have not been released yet for any purchases.
Recycling bags will be dropped off at every house in Coppell. All the stores have been
contacted and informed of the new ordinance and asked to restock with yard trimming
recycling bags. Karen S. presented three different designs for the Yard Trimming
Recycling logo. Committee members like the last design, but did not like font used for
Keep Coppell Beautiful lettering.
Item 9: Community Programs Report. Amanda updated that the Community Garden is getting
ready for new season. The post office garden has 10 bins and Town Center garden
has four bins. The first harvest for food pantry is April 10, which will be followed
with a brunch. Litter Index is March 27, members are to meet at the Service Center.
Amanda is trying to get the Girl Scouts to go along. Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled
for April 10; volunteers are needed if any one would like to help.
