BM 2004-04-08 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting April 8, 2004 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on April 8, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell, Texas. The following members were present Lisa Cunov, Chairman, John Dobson, Co-Chairman, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Julie Basham, City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Item 1: Call to Order -Lisa Cunov called meeting to order 7:08 pm. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, March 18, 2004 Minutes approved. (5-0) Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present. Item 4: Consider Approval of Keep Texas Beautiful-Governor's Community Achievement Award Application. Committee approved to submit application upon revisions made to executive summary and supplemental notebook prepared. (5-0). Smith, Basham, Dobson will work on supplemental notebook next week. Amanda will provide photos and newspaper clippings. Item 5: Consider Approval of Litter Index Report. Approved litter index of 1.3. (5-0) Item 6: Discussion of Clean Coppell Earthfest 2004 Report. Highlights of Amanda's report included 1265 clean-up volunteers, 107 Earthfest volunteers, Town Center Elem. Litter Getter Contest winner, 23.5 Tons trash collected, 36.7 tons recycling collected, 20 booths representing environmental org./businesses, and good media coverage. The committee discussed ideas for next year; move up pre-registration to get better t-shirt count, serve indiv, ice creams, separate registration booth, first aid and volunteer/booth sign in, provide recycling bins at Earthfest, and online sign up. Item 7: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program Status. The committee discussed sending the local businesses a letter encouraging participation in the Adopt a Location program. Discussion focused on personal calls verses a mass mailing. Amanda will start with a mailing to the Chamber of Commerce businesses. Amanda has turned in the sign work order for the new group-The Container Store. Item 8: Discussion of Residential Yard Trimmings Recycling Promotional Campaign. The Committee discussed the implementation of the campaign that was funded by the NCTC©G through the TCEQ. They suggested a Spanish version of the flyer be made available on the website. Flyers and yard bags will be delivered at 10,400 households starting the 19~h of April. Cunov has been interviewed for the Community Cable Channel and there is a new webpage to kick off the May i service. Item 9: Community Programs Report. Amanda updated the committee on the Coppell Community Garden gearing up for the season and mentoring other cities. IGds Day America on May 154 12-3pm, at Everybody Fits will feature the vermicomposting by the Master Composters.
