BM 2004-05-20 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting May 20, 2004 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on May 20, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd, Coppell, Texas. The following members were present Lisa Cunov, Chairman, John Dobson, Co-Chairman, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Rita Hoenigo Rene Lawson, City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Item 1: Call to Order -Lisa Cunov called meeting to order 7:08 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, April 8, 2004 Minutes Approved. (6-0) Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present. Item 4: Consider Approval of Swearing in of KCB Committee Member, Rita Hoenig. Lisa Cunov swore in Rita Hoenig to the KCB Committee. Item 5: Consider Approval of KCB Summer Meeting Schedules. Committee approved to cancel the June and August meetings and change the July meeting to July 22. Jane F. motioned, Karen S. second approval. (6-0) Item 6: Discussion of the Governor's Community Achievement Award. Lisa Cunov gave Rita H. the recap of the Governor's Award. Amanda V. informed the Committee that KCB received third place on the Governor's Award entry and will be attending the KTB Conference in Austin to receive the award. Committee members discussed the possibility of submitting for the award next year and the changes that can be made for improvement. John D. suggested the entry for this year be place on a CD for easier access the following year. Lisa C. suggested there be more pictures taken for documentation. Karen S. suggested there be more focus on illegal dumping. This item will be placed on the agenda for considering approval at next meeting. Item 7: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program Status. No new groups have been recruited for Adopt-a-Location. Committee members updated Rita H. about the Adopt-a- location program. Next I4CB pick up date will be on July 10. Item 8: Discussion of Residential Yard Trimmings Recycling Promotional Campaign and Consider approval of Parade entry. Five tons of yard trimmings were picked up on the first pick up with a total of 22 tons on the first week and 21 tons on the second week. Amanda V. asked the Water Billing Dept. to randomly pull ten addresses each week for the month of June so that committee members can go out and check the addresses on the recycling days. If the home owners recycle their yard trimmings that day, committee members will place a stack of recycling bags on their door steps along with a note informing them they have been entered for a chance to win a Yard Vac. The winner of the Yard Vac will be announced on July 4. Lisa C., Rene L. John D., Jane F. volunteered to check the addresses. Amanda V. will order shirts for committee members using the grant money as a way to advertise the Yard Trimmings Recycling. Amanda V. ordered banners to be placed on a truck for the July 3 parade; Lisa C. suggested the yard trimming bag be worn as a costume. Rene L. motioned, John D. second the approval to be in the parade. (6-0) Item 9: Community Programs Report. Amanda reported that Community Garden Committee will attend the next Council meeting to request funding for a part-time Community Garden Coordinator. There was almost 3,000 pounds of produce collected this year. Three Arbor Day posters made honorable mentioned at State Level. May 28m 8:15 am Town Center Elem. will be awarded the Litter Getter Contest winner. Town Center Elm. is the first school to have a school-recycling plan. New Business to be placed on next meeting's agenda: Approval to submit for 04-05 Governor's Award ADJOURNED Meeting adjourned.
