5. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Ongoing Projects/Workload Statistics: Staff continues to meet with the architect,
PSA and Associates and Sheri Moino, the city's facilities manager. We are looking at
service desks that have the functionality to electrically adjust for height. We have
selected paint for the staff areas not impacted by the remodel. City staff will paint
these areas.
The Horizon System was upgraded on April 13, 2004. This was a major upgrade and
the public was notified in advance that the system would not be available. We ran the
backup circulation software and did not allow the public or staff to use the system
during the upgrade.
April continued the increase in circulation with an over all circulation increase of 14%.
Circulation of juvenile materials increased 13%. Our part-time children's librarian last
day was May 11, 2004. As we are going into our busiest months with that position
open, Gloria Woods who has worked with us in previous summers in our seasonal
position, will be with us for 10 weeks during the summer months.
FY 04/05 Budget: We submitted a flat budget for the next year with the exception of
library materials. We have requested that the savings achieved through the Energy
Management System installation be redeployed to library materials. The City Council
votes on adopting the budget in September.
6. UPDATE ON SUMMER READING PROGRAM: Marianne Follis Youth Services
Librarian presented information to the board about the Color Your World - Summer Reading
Club Program. She stated that she has visited the Elementary Schools in the Coppell district to
pass out the calendars for the SRC. Marianne will be attending the EMS fair at the Coppell fire
station #3 on Sunday, May 16, 2004 to promote the SRC.
