BM 2004-08-04 EcDevCOPPELL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE August 4, 2004 MINUTES The Coppell Economic Development Committee met at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Coppell Town Center, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas 75019. The following were present: Bill Rohloff, Jason Crawford, Gary Roden, Ed Thomas, John Durand, Kris Fichtner, Ron Hansen, Matt Hall, Jeanette Cajide, Larry Kingsbury, Councilmember Billy Faught, Andrea Roy, and Scarlett Hovland. Call to Order · Bill Rohloff called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Approval of Minutes It was moved by Larry Kingsbury and seconded by Kris Fichtner that the minutes of the July 7, 2004 meeting be approved. The motion passed unanimously. Discussion Regarding Targeted Business · The committee identified the following list of "Targeted Businesses" they felt were needed to help complete Coppell's retail, commercial, and industrial mix. · Hotel, Bed & Breakfast · Teenage Entertainment - Gameworks, Bowling, Batting Cages, Miniature Golf, etc. · Health Food Shopping Center - Vitamin Store · Music Store · Family Friendly Restaurants for Socializing · Media Center · Hospital / ER · Craft Store · Appliance / Electronic Store · Convenience Store on North and West side · Car Dealer / Auto Repair · College Satellite Campuses. · Discussion continued with the following: · With the City of Coppell being a "Dry" community often times deters restaurants and food retail · Businesses need to draw Coppellians rather than outlying citizens · Transit Stop Shopping Business for all the commuting traffic through Coppell. · Parking space in Old Town Coppell is biggest obstacle for potential businesses. · "Shop Coppell" communication to citizens. · Coppell being located close to the DFW Airport attracts businesses. · Andrea Roy encouraged the committee to email her with any additional ideas for targeted businesses. General Discussion A. Update Regarding Tree Mitigation Requirements · The modification to Ordinance 91500-A-203, Division 2, Tree Preservation Requirements, Section 12-34-2-6, creating an exemption on Industrial Zoned property will be taken to the Planning and Zoning Commission for consideration in August and then sent to City Council for consideration in September. B. Boards & Commissions Appointments · Interviews are scheduled for the Economic Development Committee nominees on Monday, August 9 in Town Center beginning at 6 p.m. C. Update on Commercial and Industrial Development Projects · Washington Mutual will be leaving Coppell. · Medical Center development to locate in Old Town. · Town Center Bank to locate along the east side of Denton Tap Road, south of S. H. 121 at the Natches Trace Addition. First chartered Coppell bank. · Farmers Market is doing well in Old Town. · Hot Spot property located at S. H. 121, S. of Sandy Lake, W. of Royal Lane has been purchased. · Andrea Roy shared with the committee information gained from her meeting with a restaurant consultant. With no further business to discuss, it was moved by Kris Fichtner and seconded by Matt Hall that the meeting adjourn.
