Minutes of Meeting
July 22, 2004
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on July 22, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell
Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present Lisa Cunov,
Chairman, John Dobson, Co-Chairman, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Rita Hoenigo Rene Lawson, Julie Basham,
City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order - Lisa Cunov called meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, May 22, 2004 Minutes. Approved (7-0)
Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present.
Item 4:
Consider Approval of submitting application for the 2005 Governor's Community Achievement
Award. Committee members viewed the point ruling for the Governor's Award and discussed possible
ways for improvement. Karen S. suggested having the Governor's award as an item on the agenda for
update. Julie B. motioned, John D. second the motion to submit the application, approved (7-0)
Item 5:
Discussion of the Adopt a Location Program Status. Amanda put an advertisement in the Chamber
of Commerce newsletter to recruit new businesses. October 2'~ is the next pick up for KCB Adopt a
Location, time to be decided on the next meeting. Wildflower seeding will be on October 2'~. John D.
suggested having "Adopt Me" signs at the locations that need to be adopted. Amanda V. will order new
Adopt a Location signs with new logo. Karen B., Jane F., Rita H., Lisa C., John D., Julie B.
volunteered to drop off recycling bins at the National Night out event on August 3~.
Item 6:
Discussion of Residential Yard Trimmings Promotional Campaign. John D. will take a picture
of the yard vac winner to place in the newspaper. Amanda had a section put in the City newsletter
about Yard Trimmings Recycling. Rita H. suggested having a sign by the Kraft bags at the grocery
stores so that people would be able to see them.
Item 7:
Community Programs Report. Amanda V. went to the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference and
took pictures of the other Governor's Award entries. Amanda V. suggested having a reading
program, to have committee members go to a school and read books to the children. Keep Coppell
Beautiful received a letter from the Mayor to congratulate the members on receiving the Gold Star
Award. Community Gardeners have donated 2,500 pounds more than last year at this same time.
Last Sunday, the Gardeners at Helping Hands expanded the compost education area. August 28~h is
the Texas Smartscape tour.
