BM 2004-09-16 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting September 16, 2004 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on September 16, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present Lisa Cunov, Chairman, John Dobson, Co-Chairman, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Rene Lawson, Julie Basham, City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Not Present: Rita Hoenig. Item 1: Call Meeting to Order - Lisa Cunov called meeting to order at 7:14 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, July 22, 2004 Minutes. Approved (6-0) Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present. Item 4: Discussion of the Adopt a Location Program Status. Committee members discussed the new AAL list that included the unadopted priority list. Amanda showed the Chamber of Commerce Newsletter with the AAL article. One business has shown interest on North MacArthur. They also discussed sending the renewals in December for the new year. Item 5: Discussion of the GCAA Documentation. Julie will update the GCAA form with the current activities. The committee discussed the scanning of the articles for the supplemental booklet. Julie talked about the Lakes and Rivers Clean up as another activity to combine with the Clean Coppell. She has the equipment to help with a clean up along Denton Creek. The committee also is recording their volunteer hours for the report. Item 6: Discussion of Residential Yard Trimmings Promotional Campaign. The committee discussed the implementation of the ideas from the last meeting. Amanda updated the committee on activities coming up for Texas Recycles Day; i.e. Mulch Day and Bag Handouts at the grocery or hardware stores. It was suggested to have the National Juniors Honors Society, Boy Scouts, or Girl Scouts to help with the bag handouts. Another idea was to have students decorate the bags and take them home to tell their parents about using them on the curb. Amanda will email out the information about the Mulch Day. Item 7: Discussion of City Council Recommendations for 04-05 Funds. Amanda reported that the City Council has budgeted $25,000 for Keep Coppell Beautiful to extend to the Coppell Community Garden (CCG) and Farmers Market to provide community improvement programs. The committee discussed the ability of the CCG to develop a plan of implementation for the additional funding to support an assistant to coordinate the programs. Also discussed was the advantage of including these programs in the Keep Texas Beautiful reports and that they would be more informed. Item 8: Community Programs Report. Amanda announced the Keep Texas Beautiful training on September 25m, Wildflower Seeding on Oct. 2 followed by the AAL for the committee, and the Master Composter Seminar on Oct. 14-16% Amanda stated that the CCG has donated over 10,000 pounds this year and what a difference it has made for families in need. There was also mention of the GCAA executive summery and notebook that was entered into the Keep America Beautiful National Affiliate Awards. Amanda thanked the committee for creating a well-done document in the first place.
