BM 2004-11-18 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting November 18, 2004 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on November 18, 2004 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present, John Dobson, Chairman,, Sheila Bester, Co-Chairman, Lisa Cunov, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Julie Basham, and City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Not Present: Deb Newton- Hair Item 1: Call Meeting to Order -John Dobson called meeting to order at 7:06p.m. Item 2: Presentation by Parks and Recreation Department on Event Sponsorship. Kxistina Courson presented the committee with a slide show in regards to Event Sponsorships. Item 3: Consider Approval of Minutes, October 21, 2004 Minutes. Approved (6-0) Item 4: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present. Item 5: Discussion and consider approval of AAL Marketing Plan to recruit and retain groups. Karen Smith created a spreadsheet with mailing and contact information for all the businesses in Coppell. Karen suggested we mail a letter to all the businesses the week of January 17 and make a follow up telephone call January 19-30. It was also discussed to post the FAQ's on the city website and to contact the media to heighten the interest. Sheila, Karen, John, Julie, Lisa and Jane volunteered to make follow up telephone calls. Cecilia will create a mail merge and mail out the letters the week of January 17. Renewal packages for the existing groups will be mailed out the week of December 6. Lisa C. motioned to approve marketing plan, Jane F. second. Motion carded unanimously. (6-0) Item 6: Discussion and consider approval of new AAL Groups. Amanda V. informed the committee that First United Methodist Church Youth adopted the area of Duck Pond Park, which is part of Lisa Cunov's area. Jane F. motioned to approve First United Methodist Youth as a new AAL group, Sheila B. second. Motion carried unanimously. (6-0) Item 7: Discuss and consider approval of Lake/River Clean up included in Clean Coppell When organizations pre-register for Clean Coppell, they will have the option to enter the Lake/River Clean up contest. Julie B. requested a release of liability form from the City. Lisa C. motioned to add the Lake/River Clean up to Clean Coppell, Jane F. second. Motion carded unanimously. (6-0) Item 8: Discussion and consider approval of Holiday Parade, Dec. 4, entry Committee members discussed of possible costumes for the December 4 parade. Lisa C. will design a costume to promote the Holiday Tree Curbside Recycling, Jane F. will promote AAL and John D. will design a costume to publicize the award KCB received from Keep America Beautiful. Karen S., Julie B, and Sheila B. will hand out recycling bins and Kraft bags. Julie B. motioned to approve the Holiday Parade entry, Karen S. second. Motion carried unanimously. (6-0) Item 9: Discussion of the Governor's Community Achievement Award Documentation Amanda V. is working to update the database with any new information. Cecilia G. is scanning all documents in preparation for the award. Item 10: Discussion of Computer Recycling. Dallas Computer Parts will hold the Computer Recycling on January 8m from 9am to 11 p.m. at no charge to the citizens. Amanda will check into sign advertising, but will advertise the event on the waterbill insert, Coppell Clips, and newspaper. Item 11: Discussion of Waste in Place Curriculum Amanda informed committee that she has a kit, which includes various Waste in Place activities. Lisa C. Suggested to have Amanda V. and Julie B. to meet with Linda Cook and ask her what lessons she thinks the teachers would have an interest in. Item 12: Community Program Report Amanda V. was approved to go to the conference in Washington D.C. to receive the Keep America Beautiful Award. Amanda reported that the Texas Recycles Day activities went well, all Kraft bags at Albertson's and Ace Hardware were distributed to Coppell citizens.
