BM 2005-01-20 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting January 20, 2005 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on January 20, 2005 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present, John Dobson, Chairman, Lisa Cunov, Karen Smith, Jane Filarowicz, Julie Basham, Deb Newton-Hair, and City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator. Not Present: Sheila Bester, Co- Chairman Item 1: Call Meeting to Order -John Dobson called meeting to order at 7:04p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, December 18, 2004 Minutes. Approved (6-0) Item 3: Citizen's Forum. Gifts Scout Troop 2465, Patti Cummins,Janet Lance Item 4: Discussion and consider approval of Clean Coppell Plan. Clean Coppell planning has begun, registrations will be mailed in February and posted on the web site. Amanda said that this year there would be ice cream served to the volunteers. The City of Coppell will have 4 different Hybrid cars displayed for citizens to view. Karen S. suggested having a computer onsite so that citizens can register for the Hybrid giveaway contest. Committee members also discussed of having the computer and yard trimmings recycling. Jane F. motioned to accept the Clean Coppell Plan, Karen second. Motion carried unanimously. (6-0) Item 5: Discussion of Coppell Community Garden Quarterly Report. Deb Newton-Hair informed the committee that Joyce Whitbread has been helping with Teen Court kids, Gifts Scout Troops, Farmers Market and more. Amanda will ask Joyce to give tours of the garden during the Earthfest. Item 6: Discussion of Recycling in Coppell. Data entry of for the surveys done during Computer Recycling Day has not been input, out of 95 surveys concerning the Yard Trimmings Recycling; 32 were not applicable, 33 very satisfied, 21 satisfied and 5 dissatisfied. Brad Reid will send a letter to Waste Management in regards to the issue, with a focus on citizens concerns. Amanda suggested asking Waste Management to place cameras on the trucks and send her a participation report. Item 7: Discussion of Educational Plan. Amanda met with Linda Cook regarding the Waste in Place Curriculum. Linda Cook picked two kits to be distributed to teachers. Amanda contacted Pat Daly for seeds to put in the kits. Amanda also gave a presentation to eighth graders, and they have contacted Deb for composting information. Item 8: Discussion of Adopt a Locations Program. Letters to recruiting companies to participate in the AAL Program have been mailed out. Committee members will make a follow up phone call to all the companies. Item 9: Discussion of the Governor's Community Achievement Award. Julie is in the process of getting the database together. She also requested the committee to search through any documents from the previous year that can be used for the award. Cecilia and Amanda are still scanning documents and articles. Item 10: Community Program Report. Amanda informed the committee that the annual sign up for CCG is February 7th and the Master Composter Seminar will be February 17-19. Computer Recycling collected 98 cell phones; Amanda will be recycling cell phones ongoing through the Parks Department and at Town Center.
