Minutes of Meeting
April 21, 2005
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on April 21, 2005 at 7pm in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present,
John Dobson, Chairman, Sheila Bester, Co-Chairman, Lisa Cunov, Jane Filarowicz, Julie Basham,
Christopher Reed, and City of Coppell Liaison: Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Coordinator.
Not Present, Karen Smith.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order - John Dobson called meeting to order at 7:00p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of Minutes, February 17, 2005 Minutes. Approved (7-0)
Item 3: Citizen's Forum. No citizens present.
Item 4: New KCB member, Chris Reed, Welcome and Introductions
Amanda Vanhoozier introduced Chris Reed to the committee.
Item 5: Presentation by Waste Management on Yard Trimmings Recycling Service
Presentation moved to the May meeting.
Item 6: Presentation on the 40 Assets by Get Connected committee member, Jane Darling
Jane Darling and Vonita White gave the presentation on the 40 Assets.
Item 7:
Discussion of AAL Program, including the litter index
Litter Index score for 2005 is 1.6, committee reviewed scoring sheet and discussed of ways to
improve the problem areas. Committee members where asked to contact the AAL groups that did
not return their Clean Up reports for Earthfest and also contact the groups that did not have a
clean up that day. Cecilia will email the committee the updated AAL spreadsheet.
Item 8:
Discussion of Educational Plan-Curriculum Kits
Julie Basham brought the pin wheel pattern for one of the kits and the trays needed for the second
kit. Amanda will contact Lisa and ask her to email the committee the items that are going to be
need for the kits.
Item 9:
Discussion of Clean Coppell Earthfest Follow up
Committee discussed ways to improve next year's event, which is scheduled for April 1. Some of
the items that will be looked into next year will be Hazardous waste, promoting Yard Trimmings
Recycling, and computer recycling. Julie Basham suggested sending out a letter asking volunteers
for any suggestions. Amanda will check surveys for any comments or suggestions.
Item 10: Discussion of the Governor's Community Achievement Award
Amanda is working on the final details for the award. On April 29th Amanda will email the
committee the draft for the committee to review and make any changes. The notebook will
follow the same format as last year's entry with updated pictures and articles.
Item 11: Community Program Report.
Coppell Community Garden applied for a grant to receive funds for training with a focus on
health and obesity. Jr. Master Gardener program to begin this summer. Deb Newton-Hair is
training youth for volunteering monthly. Arbor Day is April 29th at 2:00pm at the Aquatic and
Recreation center, the Poster Contest winner will be announced.
