4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Remodel Project Update: The remodel project is just about wrapped up with the
exception of the punch list for the service desks.
The library has ordered a study booth for the young adult area with the $300 credit
received from Demco and the remainder with funds from the current fiscal year.
Response to the National Library Week activities was very positive. Based on gate-
count, we had 1196 in the library Sunday, April 17, of which approximately 300
attended the Open House.
Workload Indicators: Statistics continue to rise. The library has extended the hours
on Wednesdays until 9:00 pm. This will have an effect on all workload indicators.
We will continue to evaluate our children's programs. In the entire 2003/2004 fiscal
year, we had 280 programs. In the first seven months of this fiscal year we have had
208 with our busiest months still ahead. At this time last year we had 4288 attendees
versus 5506, this year.
Comments/Suggestions: There were several suggestions related to the acquisition of
new books and movies. Public services staff evaluate each request and if request meet
criteria, they order them. If not, they suggest interlibrary loan to the patron.
5. SUMMER READING PROGRAM: Marianne Follis Youth Services Librarian
presented information to the board about the Go Wild... Read! - Summer Reading Club Program.
This year the library is offering special programs on Fridays specifically for teens. Marianne
stated that there would be a Junie B. Jones Jamboree, Captain Underpants Invasion, Harry Potter
celebration and Irving Children's Theatre programs. Morgan Griffin suggested that we may want
to have a look alike contest where patrons may dress up as their favorite Junie B. Jones character.
This summer, the library is offering art workshops for the Young Adults entering 6th through 12th
grade. The programs will be presented by Vet an award winning illustrator, muralist and artist,
who will be sharing her vision of using common and unique recycled items in the creation of art.
We currently have 75 volunteens signed up to help us with the Summer Reading club. August 2nd
will be the closing party and grand prize drawings.
6. ADJOURNMENT: Melissa Hall moved and Jennifer Jackson seconded to adjourn at
7:40 p.m. Carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Janet Lance
