RE 2005-0906.1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. 2005-0906.1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING A DISASTER RELIEF FUND FOR PRIVATE CONTRIBUTIONS OF VOLUNTARY SPECIAL FUND DONATION OF TWO DOLLARS ($2.00) OR MORE FOR THE MONTHS OF OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER OF 2005 TO ASSIST VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA, BY AND THROUGH SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES; PROVIDING FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF A SPECIAL ACCOUNT FOR PRIVATE DONATIONS WITH A LOCAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTION FOR THE DEPOSIT OF SAID FUNDS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the cities in the Gulf Coast and the victims of Hurricane Katrina are in need of financial assistance for rescue and recovery costs, assistance with displaced families, and for restoration efforts and equipment, and other needs and necessities; and WHEREAS, the city of Coppell desires to facilitate its citizens to send a financial contribution and aid to assist in the needs of the Gulf Coast by and through Social Service Agencies; and WHEREAS, the city of Coppell currently has adopted a two dollar ($2.00) or more voluntary donation for like situations within the City; and WHEREAS, the city of Coppell desires to permit its citizens to reallocate such voluntary donations received from the water bill to a fund for relief efforts for the refugees and for rebuilding Gulf Coast cities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council desires to establish an account for the citizens wishing to make a donation and to authorize the staff to establish a fund at a local financial institution for the purpose of providing financial assistance to Social Service Agencies. SECTION 2. That the two dollar ($2.00) or more monthly donation currently on the water bill shall be allocated to such fund for the months of October, November and December, except that customer requests such donation remain with the current fund; and, such funds be placed in the aforementioned account for the Disaster Relief Fund; and, direct that such funds be forwarded to Social Service Agencies. SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage as the law and charter in such cases provide.
