LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
January 12,2006
The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday,
January 12, 2006 in the program room at the William T. Cozby Public Library.
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Tom Trahan at 7:05 p.m.
Other board members present were Melissa Hall, Douglas Johnson, Kathy Ross, David Smith,
Beth Sparks, Meme Collins- Tabuena, Morgan Griffin and Kelsey Stephenson. Staff in
attendance were Library Director, Kathy Edwards, Assistant Library Director, Connie Moss,
Librarian Supervisor, Jane Darling and Administrative Technician, Janet Lance.
2. APPROVAL OF BOARD MINUTES DATED November 10, 2005: Douglas Johnson
moved to approve the minutes and David Smith seconded the motion. All were in favor and the
minutes were approved.
3. CITIZENS' APPEARANCES: None
4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
. Workload Indicators: Overall circulation increased 11 % over 2003. Gate count and
Internet usage are way up as they reflect citizens entering the building.
. Comments/Suggestions: Suggestions relating to the acquisition of new books,
movies and periodicals are given to Public Services staff for evaluation and follow-
up. Staff personally contacts those who leave contact information for all suggestions.
In response to request for having a web link showing books that are "on order", the
patron was contacted and told how to search for "on order" items.
5. LIBRARY FOUNDATION: Tom Trahan informed the library board that the special
committee for foundation 50I(c)(3) met on December 1, 2005. Discussion took place regarding
the Articles ofIncorporation and Bylaws of Coppell Public Library foundation, Inc. Suggested
changes will be made and sent. Kathy Edwards will have documents reviewed by the City
Attorney if appropriate. Tom Trahan will give the Library Board's Report to Council at the
Tuesday, January 24,2006 meeting.
6. HOMEWORK CENTER: Jane Darling reported to the library board on the statistics
and usage of the Homework Center. The board was informed that the CISD Librarians will be
attending a demonstration of the online tutoring for Coppell students at the William T. Cozby
Public Library.

7. ADJOURNMENT: Melissa Hall moved and David Smith seconded to adjourn at 7:50
p.m. Carried.
