A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS, EXPRESSING
THE CONCERNS AND OPPOSITION OF ITS CITIZENS TO A PROPOSED
LANDFILL LYING WITHIN THE CITY OF CARROLLTON, BUT NEAR AND
ADJACENT TO THE NORTHEAST BOUNDARY OF THE CITY OF COPPELL
AND THAT THE CITY OF CARROLLTON CONSIDER ALL ENVIRONMENTAL,
ECONOMIC, AND POTENTIAL TRAFFIC IMPACT UPON THE CITIZENS OF
COPPELL.
WHEREAS, the City of Coppell has become aware that a
property owner has requested a zoning change and special use
permit to allow for designation of 230.35 acres located
approximately 1500' north of Sandy Lake Road adjacent and
east of the gun club as landfill property; and
WHEREAS, the City of Carrollton Planning and Zoning
Commission has recommended approval of said change of zoning
to allow said creation and operation of landfill; and
WHEREAS, the City of Coppell has previously expressed
its concerns to the Carrollton Planning & Zoning Commission
for the creation and designation of this property for use as
a landfill; and
WHEREAS, the city of Coppell has an established Truck
Route Ordinance upon Sandy Lake Road within the City of
Coppell in order to preserve the safety of its citizens and
relieve unnecessary wear and tear on certain designated
streets and roadways, of which Sandy Lake Road is one of
those roadways; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Coppell, whose
property is in the near vicinity of this proposed landfill,
believe that the creation and use of this land as a landfill
will adversely impact the value of their property; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Coppell believe
that the proposed landfill will cause significant harm to
the air quality, ground quality and the Elm Fork of the
Trinity River and will directly affect Denton Creek, thereby
affecting the health, wealth, and safety of all the citizens
of Coppell, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Irving and the City
of Dallas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS THAT:
1. Mayor Wolfe is designated as the city of Coppell's
spokesperson to present the feelings and position
of the City of Coppell to the Carrollton City
Council and other persons and institutions as may
be appropriate in opposing the approval and
designation of a certain tract of land as a
landfill and urge that the city Council of the
City of Carrollton refuse and deny this request
for zoning of the 230.35 acres located
approximately 1500' north of Sandy Lake Road
adjacent and east of the Gun Club as property to
be designated as a landfill; and
2. The Mayor and City Council of the City of Coppell,
having learned that the Carrollton Planning and
Zoning Commission has recommended approval of this
request, hereby urges the Carrollton Mayor and
City Council to deny this request in concern for
the health, welfare, and safety of neighboring
communities.
