RE 03-08-88.1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS SOLUTION NO. 030888.1 ELECTION OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS Coppell, Texas May 7, 1988 ELECTION ORDER BE IT REMEMBERED THAT on this 8th day of March, 1988,1 at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas, a quorum being present, the meeting was called to order and the Council issued the following order: IT IS ORDERED that an election be held in the City of Coppel], Texas, on the 7th day of May, 1988, the same being the first Saturday of said month for the following purpose: To elect the following city officers: One Counci]member for Place i for a two-year term, one Councilmember for Place 3 for a two-year term, one Councilmember for Place 5 for a two-year term, and one CounciImember for Place 7 for a two-year term. The candidate for each such office receiving a majority of all votes cast for all candidates for such office shall be elected to serve such term or until his or her successor is duly elected and qualified.2 In the event any candidate for any one of said offices fails to receive a majority of all votes cast for all the candidates for such office, a run-off election shall be called as provided for by the Charter of the City and the laws of the State of Texas law.3 The polling place for said election shaI1 be the Pinkerton Elementary School, 260 Southweatern Blvd., Coppell, Texas. The polls shall be open from 7:00 o'clock a.m. to 7:00 o'clock p.m. 1. (3.005) 2. (CC5.06) 3. (CC5.07) None but legally qualified voters of the City shall be entitled to vote at said election. Notice of said election shall be published once in the official newspaper of the City not earlier than April 7, 1988, nor later than April 27, 1988, and shall be posted on the Bulletin Board used to publish notice of City Council Meetings not later than April 21, 1988.4 A copy of the published notice that contains the name of the newspaper and the date of publication shall be retained as a record of such notice and the person posting the notice shaI] make a record at the time of posting stating the date and place of posting.5 A Presiding Election Judge and an Alternate Presiding Election Judge shall be appointed to serve at said polling place by written resolution of the City Council of the City of Coppell, Texas.6 The alternate presiding judge shall serve as presiding judge if the regularly appointed presiding judge cannot serve7 and where the election is conducted by the regularly appointed presiding judge, the presiding judge shall appoint the alternate presiding judge as one of the clerks.8 The Presiding Judge for said polling place shah appoint two Election Clerks and as many additional Clerks as are necessary for the proper conduct of the election. Provided, however, ~ ~) shall be the maximum number of Clerks which may be appointed to serve at said polling place.9 All Judges and Clerks shall be qualified voters in the City.l0 An Absentee Ballot Board is hereby created.TM The Presiding Election Judge shah also serve as the presiding judge of the Absentee Ballot Board. (87.001) officers appointed by the presiding judge to serve at said election shall serve as the other members of the Absentee Ballot Board.12 Absentee voting for the above designated election shal! be held at the regular office of the City Secretary at the City Hal! Building, Coppell, Texas, and said place of absentee voting shah remain open on each day of absentee voting which is not a Saturday, Sunday or a legal State holiday, beginning on the 20th day and continuing through the 4th day preceding the date of said election.13 Said place of absentee voting shall remain open on the weekdays of the absentee voting period and during the hours that the City Secretary's office is regularly open for business. The City Secretary shah be the absentee voting clerk for said election.14 The City Secretary may by written order appoint one or more of the City Secretary's permanent deputies as deputy absentee voting clerks.15 After holding said election, the presiding election judge shah promptly deliver the origina! of the election returns in person to the Mayor or if the Mayor is unavailable, to the City Secretary.16 The returns shall be delivered to the City Council before the time set for convening the local canvass for the purpos of canvassing said election.17 The canvass of said election returns shall be conducted by the City Council of the City of Coppell not earlier than the 2nd day nor later than the 6th day after the election.18 The Presiding Election Judge shah be paid the sum of $5.00 per hour, plus an additional sum of $25.00 for his services in delivering the returns of the e!ection. The Alternate Presiding Election Judge shah be paid the sum of $5.00 per hour and each Election Clerk shall be paid the sum of $5.00 per hour for their services in holding the e!ection.
