Minutes of Meeting
January 19, 2006
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on January 19, 2006, at 7 p.m. in the Conference Room at
the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:,
John Dobson, Chairman, Lisa Cunov, Cindy Geppert, David Goodner, Tom Hudon, Chris Reed, Brent
Wooten, and Amanda Vanhoozier, City Liaison and Community Programs Supervisor, and Carrie Stevenson,
Special Events Coordinator.
Item 1:Call Meeting to Order
John Dobson called meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.
Item 2:Consider Approval of November 17, 2005, Minutes
Cindy Geppert moved to approve the minutes, and Chris Reed seconded the motion. Motion
carried unanimously, 7-0.
Item 3:Citizen’s Forum
No citizens present.
Item 4:Discussion and consider approval of application for KTB Governor’s Community
Achievement Award
Amanda Vanhoozier showed a PowerPoint presentation and explained the achievement
award application and requirements. Discussion followed, and a motion by Lisa Cunov
was seconded by David Goodner. Approved unanimously, 7-0.
Item 5:Discussion and consider approval of representative for Coppell Nature Park
Steering Committee
Amanda Vanhoozier reported that a liaison or representative from Keep Coppell
Beautiful is needed at the steering committee meetings held on Tuesday nights at the
CISD Brock Center once a quarter. Chris Reed volunteered to be the representative. Lisa
Cunov motioned for approval and Cindy Geppert seconded. Approved unanimously, 6-0.
Item 6:Discussion and evaluation of E-Cycling Collection
The event was a success with a collection of ten tons of electronics until 4:00 p.m. A $.03
per pound rebate ($600.00) will be given to Keep Coppell Beautiful. Amanda Vanhoozier
talked with the City of Frisco about what they saw when touring the recycling plant and
was given a glowing report on the process of refurbishing and reusing the various parts.
Some suggestions for the next electronic recycling event are: direct traffic, two lanes of
cars in unloading zone, more laborers and more organization by the recycling company,
smaller trucks and more trucks, the company laborers remove the electronics from the
trunks of cars, and more city volunteers to help.
Item 7:Discussion and report of Clean Coppell Planning Committee
Lisa Cunov reported that the planning committee is excited and making plans for T-
shirts, food and volunteers for the event to be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006, 9-12:00
noon, at Town Center. They have set up a Yahoo group called Keep Coppell Beautiful.
The planning committee’s next meeting is January 30.
Item 8:Discussion of AAL Program and Retail Center Surveys
Board members turned in their reports and received new assignment reports. Amanda
Vanhoozier reported on businesses that did not participate as agreed this last year.
Twelve businesses were dropped from the program. Board members are to call those who
have not signed a new agreement and report back to Cecilia Gandara on the feedback
they receive. The next pick-up date is March 4, 2006.
Item 9:Discussion of NCTCOG Solid Waste Implementation Project Application—Run,
Refresh, Recycle
Amanda Vanhoozier reported that the grant application for $14,480.00 was sent in. We
will know by the March meeting if we will be awarded the grant money, which will be
used to purchase signs and various recycling receptacles and for park personnel training.
