Minutes of Meeting
February 16, 2006
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Committee met on February 16, 2006, at 7 p.m. in the Conference Room at
the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:,
John Dobson, Chairman, Cindy Geppert, Tom Hudon, Chris Reed, Brent Wooten, and Amanda Vanhoozier,
City Liaison and Community Programs Supervisor.
Item 1:Call Meeting to Order
John Dobson called meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
Item 2:Consider Approval of January 19, 2006, Minutes
Cindy Geppert moved to approve the minutes, and Chris Reed seconded the motion. Motion
carried unanimously, 5-0.
Item 3:Citizen’s Forum
No citizens present.
Item 4:Discussion and Consider Approval of March Meeting Date
Due to the CISD spring break, the committee discussed changing the next meeting date to
March 23. A motion by Brent Wooten was seconded by Tom Hudon. Motion carried
unanimously, 5-0.
Item 5:
Discussion of AAL Program and Retail Center Surveys
Board members turned in their survey reports and received new ones.
Windy days have made trash containment difficult; Texaco does not have lids, Pan Asian
looks good but next door has a lot of trash and boxes.
Amanda Vanhoozier stated that by next meeting we will know who is going to stay with
AAL clean up and who dropped out.
The next Keep Coppell Beautiful committee AAL pick-up date is March 4, 2006, 9:00
a.m.
Item 6:Discussion of Clean Coppell Earthfest, April 1
Cindy Geppert reported that the planning committee has contacted all Coppell churches,
Young Life, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the YMCA.
There will be litter pick up and yard work done for senior citizens and parks clean up.
Booths, entertainment, and food have been arranged by the committee.
Amanda Vanhoozier stated that we are hoping to have over 1,000 kids sign up, Starbucks
and UPS have contacted her, the T-shirts were designed by Gary Klingman, computer
drop off will be at Town Center Elementary, Metrocrest Services will pick up reusable
items, and there will be a bulky waste pick up of swing sets, mattresses, appliances, etc.
Amanda Vanhoozier stated that having a planning committee this year for this event has
been very good.
Item 7:Discussion of NCTCOG Solid Waste Implementation Project Application—Run,
Refresh, Recycle
Amanda Vanhoozier reported that the grant for $14,480.00 was awarded. Coppell was
second in the process out of 22 finalists. The money will be used to purchase signs and
various recycling receptacles that will be in use by the fall sports season. Committee
member volunteers will be needed at the ballfields for kick-off days.
Item 8:Community Programs Report

The Coppell Community Garden had their annual sign up on February 6 with 60 people
attending. Applications have been received for a new garden coordinator to replace Deb
Newton-Hair.

Coppell Farmer’s Market has 14 committee members on their new board.
?
Containers of used cooking oil, which is made into bio-diesel (20%-80%), can be
dropped off at the service center; or Environmental Health Sanitarian Carol Primeaux
will pick up at homes.
?
ARC sent a $420.00 check for 18,000 pounds of computers ($.03 per pound), and
EcoPhone sent a $280.00 check for cell phones.
