BM 2006-08-17 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting August 17, 2006 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on August 17, 2006, at 7:11 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 So. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: John Dobson, Chairman, Brent Wooten, Lisa Cunov, Joyce Whitbread, Cindy Geppert, Chris Reed and Amanda Vanhoozier, City Liaison and Community Programs Supervisor. Item 1:Call Meeting to Order John Dobson called meeting to order at 7:11 p.m. Item 2:Consider Approval of May 18, 2006, Minutes John Dobson requested the three questions in Item 8 be stricken from minutes as they were not the actual questions used in the interviews. Lisa Cunov moved to approve the minutes with the deletion of the questions in Item 8. Brent Wooten seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0. Item 3:Citizen’s Forum Diana Dierks, 777 Fairway Drive, Apt. 123, Coppell, Texas 75019, appeared before the board. Ms. Dierks represents North Texas Environmental Group consisting of 41 people who are interested in getting ideas and volunteering in Coppell and other cities. Item 4:Discussion and Consider Approval of Youth Advisors Recommendation Three youth advisors were interviewed and recommended: Lisa Twu, Zackary Flores, and James Halpin, alternate. All three will attend meetings. Lisa Cunov moved to approve recommendations, and Cindy Geppert seconded. Motion carried 6-0. Discussion of Retail Litter Awareness Item 5: John Dobson reported that both the Local Diner and Albertson’s scored between 1 and 2. He took the flyers and shared them with the owner of Local Diner and Albertson’s management. Brent Wooten talked with the owner of Coppell Deli regarding the parking lot being unclean. Cindy Geppert reported that the Kroger and Blockbuster lots are in good condition. Amanda Vanhoozier suggested that the flyers be taken to retail places when litter begins to be problem. She will also put the information on the city Website. The board members may call Code Enforcement at 972-304-7059 or use the Request Service tab on the city Website to report any problems. Item 6:Discussion of AAL Program Amanda Vanhoozier stated that AAL groups are not reporting pickups as requested. Cecilia will email out a corrected list for members to contact regarding their once-a-quarter pickup and the necessity to make a written report. KCB will pick up litter at their location at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2006. Item 7:Discussion of Recycling at the Park The recycling containers were purchased with the $14,000 grant money and will be placed in Wagon Wheel Park and MacArthur Park in public areas and in the team areas. Amanda Vanhoozier will email information to soccer and baseball coaches. Additional collapsible containers will be made available for runs or special events. Volunteers from KCB, Master Composters, Sports Council and Boy Scouts will be stationed near containers with free Frisbees and magnets to hand out to the public on soccer opening day, September 9, 2006, 8:00 a.m., at Wagon Wheel Park. Item 8 : Community Programs Report on Coppell Community Garden, Coppell Farmers Market, GCAA, and Solid Waste Funding ? Coppell Community Gardeners are working hard in the heat. Statistics show that they are behind in donations and poundage. The Community Garden volunteers and Bobette have done education with various organizations totaling 375 people. ? Coppell Farmers Market new vendors are increasing. There were 500 cars counted in the lot between 8 a.m. and noon. ? Bloomin’ Hot Tour is August 26, 9-noon. Tickets are $10.00 at the Town Center Community Garden. ? Mini recycle bins and rain gauges are available. ? A newly funded Solid Waste project, Recycling Promotion in Motion, will be used to purchase a 10-foot trailer with signage and equipment needed to set up booths at events. ? Wildflower Seeding on September 30, 9-10 a.m., at Moore Road Park. ? Dinner tonight provided in celebration of Governor’s Community Achievement Award. TX Dot will do the landscaping on Highway 121 in three or four years. KCB will help with the planning.
