LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
August 10, 2006
The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday,
August 10, 2006 in the program room at the William T. Cozby Public Library.
1.CALL TO ORDER
: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Tom Trahan at 7:06 p.m.
Other board members present were David Smith, Douglas Johnson, Kathy Ross, Beth Sparks,
Wendy Dunn and Meme Collins-Tabuena. Staff in attendance were Library Director, Kathy
Edwards, Assistant Library Director, Connie Moss and Administrative Technician, Janet Lance.
2.APPROVAL OF BOARD MINUTES DATED May 11, 2006:
Douglas Johnson
moved to approve the minutes and David Smith seconded the motion. All were in favor and the
minutes were approved.
3.CITIZENS’ APPEARANCES:
None
4.LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT
:

Workload Indicators:
Gate count and circulation were up 12%. Volunteer support
increased 13% with most of the hours from the Volunteen Program.

Comments/Suggestions:
Suggestions relating to the acquisition of new books,
movies and periodicals were given to Public Services staff for evaluation and follow-
up. Other suggestions that staff responded to were: library noise, wireless Internet,
allowing food in the library and video section more organized.

Minor ILS upgrade:
will take place on August 24 in order to provide support for 13
digit ISBN. HIP will be down all day and Pharos may not be available.
?
Center (The HC) is reopening:
The homework center will reopen on Monday,
August 14, 2006.
5.FOUNDATION:
Tom Trahan reported that the documents were ready to be signed and
sent to IRS. The board decided to wait until October to proceed with the documents.
6.YOUTH ADVISOR INTERVIEWS & BOARD MEMBER INTERVIEWS:
The
Library Advisory Board will interview applicants for Youth Advisory Board and make
recommendations to the City Council. Interviews are expected to be 10-15 minutes each. Tom
Trahan, David Smith and Douglas Johnson volunteered to be the interview committee.
Interviews are scheduled for Wednesday, September 6 starting at 6:00pm in the Library Board
Room.

7.BOARD REPORT TO COUNCIL ON AUGUST 22, 2006:
Tom Trahan will present
the library board report to the council on Tuesday, August 22, 2006. Tom ask that if anyone has
suggestion to be included in the report to please email him.
8.UNATTENDED CHILDREN-CHANGE OF AGE AND CAMPAIGN TO GET
THE WORD OUT:
Starting Monday, August 14, 2006 children not yet 10 years old must be
accompanied by adult when in library or seated at an Internet station. Letters have been
distributed at Town Center Elementary school to be sent home with the students. Signage is
posted on the storefront and all Internet stations stating the new policy.
9.SUMMER READING PROGRAM UPDATE/INPUT:
Summer Reading Club sign-up

was 1472Program attendance for the Summer Reading Club was 5967 a slight increase from
last year. A “controlled growth” strategy was implemented by limiting Friday program to
middle students only.
10.ADJOURNMENT:
David Smith moved and Beth Sparks seconded to adjourn at
7:55pm. Carried.
