The City Council of the City of Coppell met Jointly in a special called
session with the Coppell Independent School District on Wednesday, May
18, 1988 at Coppell Middle School Cafeteria. Dinner was held at 6:30
p.m. with the open meeting to the public beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Representatives present from the City were:

Also present were Architects for the school district Gary Keep, and Mike
Elmore.
INVOCATION
Vice-President of the School Board Lanny Jackson gave the invocation
prior to the dinner. At 7:30 p.m. Mayor Duggan and President Judy
Baggett called the respective City Council and Board meeting to order.
WORK SESSION
Item 1: Consider Joint Usage Agreements between Coppell ISD and the City of Coppell.
Item 2: Information Work Session.
A presentation was given by Mr. Gary Keep and Mike Elmore concerning the
new High School currently under construction.
Discussion was held between the City Council and the School Board
concerning joint use agreements regarding the natatorium (indoor
swimming pool) which will be located so the public can access this area
at times other than regular school hours. Other joint usage
possibilities at the new High School centered around the gymnasium, the
auditorium, an outside area known as the cormnon area, and the stadium.
Dr. Mel Gross, citizen and property owner immediately adjoining the
school property, was present and raised questions and voiced concerns on
the trees located on the property line between his property and the
school site.
Other joint programs between the City and the School District included
drug problems, Students in Government Program, paving of Parkway
Boulevard, lighting of the tennis courts at the High School, as wel! as
the swimming pool were discussed. It was the consensus of both Boards
that the liaisons from both the School District and the City would meet
jointly and bring a recommendation back to both entities within a ninety
(90) day time frame.
Following these discussions the meeting was adjourned.
