Minutes of Meeting
March 15, 2007
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on March 15, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Brent Wooten, Chairman, Chris Reed, Vice Chairman, John Dobson, Cheryl Colmery; Cindy Geppert, and
Tom Hudon. Student Advisors present: James Halpin, Zach Flores, and Janice Kim. City Liaison Amanda
Vanhoozier, Community Programs Supervisor, and Carrie Stevenson, Special Events Coordinator were
present.
Item 1:Call Meeting to Order

Brent Wooten, Chairman, called meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
Item 2:Consider Approval of February 15, 2007, Minutes
?
Cindy Geppert made a motion to approve minutes.
Tom Hudon seconded the motion.
Vote: 6-0, approved.
Item 3:Citizen’s Forum
?
No citizens present.
Item 4:Discussion of Adopt A Location Program and Renewals
?
Board members were given their AAL members lists. Amanda Vanhoozier
stated that the deadline has passed for renewals and the names of those who did
not renew will be removed from the signs leaving less than 40 adopted locations.

John Dobson reported on the March 3 Keep Grapevine Beautiful event. The
registration area was well organized with a separate station for picking up supplies.
Another table was set up with aerial photos and people to help with directions. After
cleaning up, there was entertainment, food, drinks and door prizes consisting of
certificates from local businesses. Their Keep Grapevine Beautiful signs had a
separate piece bolted on for business names.

The board will have scheduled pickup on March 17 at 10:00 after Litter Index.
Item 5:Discussion of KCB Booth at Clean Coppell
?
Carrie Stevenson reported that Clean Coppell is on April 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and
will have a stage with Mike Dunn and band. There will be two balloon ladies this
year. T-shirts with logo will be provided. We had close to 1500 volunteers last year
and expect as many this year.

Amanda Vanhoozier stated that Arbor Day will be in conjunction with Clean Coppell
at 11:30. Canon USA Corporation will be there to do a large project at the
community garden. Some fruit trees will be planted by the CCG.
?
The registration booth will handle registrations, supplies, door prizes, T-shirts and
surveys. The computer recycling area will be at Town Center Elementary parking lot.

Amanda Vanhoozier stated that there will be paper shredding, computer recycling,
paper recycling, tires and the litter getter contest. No hazardous materials will be
accepted.

The board discussed using wristbands, mapping, dividing the booth area, grading
locations easy to hard for clean up. John Dobson will devise a system for registration.
Item 6:Update on Recycling at CMS West
?
James Halpin reported his efforts in organizing students and faculty to start recycling
at CMS West. There have been three general meetings, and 6 people have joined the
group.
Item 7:Orientation: Keep America Beautiful Litter Index
?
Amanda Vanhoozier will lead the group and give commands to begin and end while
each person indexes litter. The group will cover all of Coppell on the planned route.
Each person assesses and makes his own judgment and score. Examples of scoring
were shown to the board. Scoring is 1-4, with 1 being no visible litter.

Board members will do litter index scoring on March 17, 2007, at 8:30 a.m., before
KCB scheduled AAL pick up at 10:00 a.m.

Item 8:Community Programs Report
Coppell Community Garden
1.- All the garden plots are adopted, and the
Share the Harvest will start on March 31 for the season with a pick up by
Metrocrest Social Services.
Coppell Farmers Market
2.- CFM will start their fifth year in spring 2007.
Coppell Community Garden Education
3.- The Educational Opportunities
calendar is available on the website and throughout the community.
Master Composters of Coppell
4.- Master Composter Seminar was Feb. 22-
24. There were 12 new Master Composter Trainees.
Mulch Day
5.-Five volunteers helped hand out recycling literature, and the
Coppell Recycles Trailer was there. Sixty cars came through.
Coppell Recycles at the Ballfields
6. has started again with the soccer season
beginning. Parks Maintenance has recorded 5 bags.
Recycling Promotion in Motion
7.- The trailer is all outfitted with tables,
displays, literature, canopy, and give aways. It was at the Mulch Day and will
be available for all events coming up.
School Recycling
8.- CHS Marketing Classes have begun paper recycling.
They quickly filled one bin. The schools that are collecting plastic are in the
Sam’s Club PET bottle Recycling Contest.
Arbor Day
9.tree planting being planned with the Wildflower Seeding along
the trails at Andy Brown Park East. Starbucks in Coppell has been notified
about making it a Make Your Mark project.
