CM 1993-05-07 MINUTES OF MAY 7, 1993 The City Council of the City of Coppell met in Special Called Session on Friday, May 7, 1993 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Bill Smothermon Mayor Pro Tern Peyton Weaver, Councilman David Thomas, Councilman Tom Morton, Councilman Lanny Mayo, Councilman Ron Robertson, Councilman Jim Garrison, Councilman Mayor Wolfe was absent from the meeting. Also present were Interim City Manager Frank Trando, Assistant City Secretary Linda Grau and City Attorney Peter G. Smith. REGULAR SESSION (Open to the Public) 1. Call to Order Mayor Pro Tem Smothermon called the meeting to order. 2. Canvass of returns of the May 1, 1993 Municipal Officer's election, approval of an order declaring the results of the election and authorizing the Mayor to sign. City Attorney Peter G. Smith read the canvass of returns of the May 1, 1993 City Officers election. Councilman Robertson moved to approve the Canvass of Returns and Declaration of Results of Election (this document is on file in the City Secretary Department) of the May 1, 1993 City Officers election as read by City Attorney Peter G. Smith. Councilman Mayo seconded the motion; the motion carried 7-0 with Mayor Pro Tern Smothermon and Councilmen Weaver, Thomas, Morton, Mayo, Robertson and Garrison voting in favor of the motion. 3. Swearing-in Ceremony of City Officials elected at the May 1, 1993 Municipal Officer's Election. Mayor Pro Tem Smothermon swore in the newly-elected Tom Morton/Mayor; Mayor Morton swore in the newly-elected Council members Mitch Reitman/Place 4 and Ron Robertson/Place 6. The City Council at this point consisted of: Mayor Tom Morton Councilman Peyton Weaver -- Councilman David Thomas Councilman Mitch Reitman Councilman Lanny Mayo Councilman Ron Robertson Councilman Jim Garrison Councilman Thomas will continue to serve as Councilman for Place 2 pending the runoff election for that position. The Council position for Place 3 is vacant as a result of CM050793 Page 1 of 2 Councilman Morton being elected Mayor and this Council position will be filled by special election. 4. Consider an Order Calling a Runoff Election if any be required as a result of the Municipal Officers election held on May 1, 1993. This item was postponed pending the canvass of the State election vote and is to be placed on the agenda for the May 11, 1993 meeting. Mayor Morton discussed a questionnaire which the Council is being asked to complete regarding an Arts Board. The Council was also asked to review the documents distributed to them regarding attendance and excused absences from Council meetings, Council Procedures and the Home Rule Charter. Mayor Morton announced that a Thank you card had been received from the residents of Shadowcrest regarding the repairs they requested. Councilman Reitman commented regarding the vote for the Robin Hood Amendment. There being no further business to come before the City Council, the meeting was adjourned.
