CM 1994-10-03 MINUTES OF OCTOBER 3, 1994
The City Council of the City of Coppell met in Special Called Session on Monday, October 4,
1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard,
Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Tom Morton, Mayor
Ron Robertson, Mayor Pro Tem
Norm Alexander, Councilmember '--'
Flo McFadden Stably, Councilmember
Danny L. Watson, Councilmember
Mitch Reitman, Councilmember
Lanny Mayo, Councilmember
Candy Sheehan, Councilmember
Also present were City Manager Jim Witt and Acting City Secretary Linda Grau.
REGULAR SESSION (Open to the Public)
1. Call to order
Mayor Morton called the meeting to order. Consensus of Council was to suspend the
regulations required at a Public Hearing. Mayor Morton quoted the Home Rule Charter on
decorum and turned the meeting over to Assistant City Manager/City Engineer Ken Griffin.
2. Discussion concerning TU transmission lines on Sandy Lake Road.
Assistant City Manager/City Engineer Ken Griffin stated that the four main issues were: "'"
A) Aesthetics : poles along Sandy Lake Road
B) Health Concerns : EMF's/how long and how strong
C) Cost : bury or relocate transmission lines
D) Legal Rights : TU Electric and the City

c) Limits future expansion of Sandy Lake to six lanes, if
needed
d) Potential cost to City for additional easements
e) Safety hazard for vehicles?

Reroute:

Kirk King, District Manager of TU Electric, Kyle Ray, Project Engineer for TU Electric, and
Paul Zweicker, with TU Electric, made presentations concerning background information on TU
and the City, sub-stations, cost estimates, overhead vs. underground, effects of EMF's and
health issues. A lengthy discussion, including presentations from citizens, was held. A list of
the citizens who signed a registration sheet "Public Meeting Concerning the Location of TU
Transmission Poles Along Sandy lake Road, dated Monday, October 3, 1994 at 7:00 p.m." is
on file in the City Secretary's Department. Assistant City Manager/City Engineer Ken Griffin
then held a question and answer period. The meeting was then turned back over to Mayor
Morton.

There being no further business to come before the City Council, the meeting was adjourned.
