CM 1998-05-05-- MINUTES OF MAY 5, 1998 The City Council of the City of Coppell met in Special Called Session on Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of Town Center, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Candy Sheehan, Mayor Marsha Tunnell, Mayor Pro Tern Norm Alexander, Councilmember Chuck Sturges, Councilmember (late arrival) Danny L. Watson, Councilmember Lanny Mayo, Councilmember Larry Wheeler, Councilmember Councilmember York was absent from the meeting. Also present were City Manager Jim Witt, City Secretary Kathleen Roach and Bob Hager from the City Attorney's Office. REGULAR SESSION (Open to the Public) 1. Call to order. Mayor Sheehan called the meeting to order. 2. Canvass returns of the May 2, 1998 Municipal Election, approval of an order declaring the results of said election and authorizing the Mayor to sign. Councilmember Sturges arrived during this item. Bob Hager read the Canvass of Returns and Declaration of Results of election into the record showing the following number of votes: Ron Robertson, Place i 633 Greg Garcia, Place 1 1159 Billy Faught, Place 3 765 Pat Keenan, Place 3 828 Doug Stover, Place 5 1041 Jerry Baker, Place 5 322 Lanny Mayo, Place 5 387 Mike Baird, Place 7 491 Bill York Place 7 508 Sandy Edwards, Place 7 664 CM050598 Page 1 of 2 The following were elected as Councilmembers to serve two-year terms: Place 1, Greg Garcia; Place 3, Pat Keenan; and Place 5, Doug Stover. No candidate for Place 7 received a majority of the votes and a Run-off Election will be held on May 30, 1988 between Bill York and Sandy Edwards. 3. Consider approval of a resolution calling a runoff election for May 30, 1998, if necessary. Mayor Pro Tem Tunnell moved to approve Resolution No. 050598.1 calling a runoff election for May 30, 1998. Councilmember Wheeler seconded the motion; the motion carried 6-0 with Mayor Pro Tern Tunnel] and Councilmembers Alexander, Sturges, Watson, Mayo, and Wheeler voting in favor of the motion. 4. City Manager's Report. There was no report under this item. There being no further business to come before the City Council, the meeting was adjourned at 6:07 p.m. The Special Called Session was reconvened at 6:09 p.m. to receive Council approval of accepting the Canvass of returns. Mayor Pro Tern Tunnell moved to approve the Canvass and Results of the May 2nd Municipal Election. Couneilmember Alexander seconded the motion; the motion carried 6-0 with Mayor Pro Tern Tunnell and Councilmembers Alexander, Sturges, Watson, Mayo, and Wheeler voting in favor of the motion.
