LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
May 10, 2007
The William T. Cozby Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on Thursday, May
10,2007 in the administrative board room at the William T. Cozby Public Library.
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Douglas Johnson at 7:05
p.m. Other board members present were David Smith, Meme Collins- Tabuena, Tom Trahan,
Kathy Ross and Marcia Raines. Staff in attendance were Library Director, Kathy Edwards,
Assistant Library Director, Connie Moss and Sf. Administrative Technician, Janet Lance.
2. APPROVAL OF BOARD MINUTES DATED March 8, 2007: Tom Trahan moved to
approve the minutes and David Smith seconded the motion. All were in favor and the minutes
were approved.
3. CITIZENS' APPEARANCES: None
4. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
. Workload indicators: Circulation increased 6% and gate count increased 8%.
Internet use is up 7% including WiFi. Program attendance and numbers are both up
due to special programming for National Library Week and for elementary school
tours.
. Loan Star Libraries: Grant should be completed this month. The new end panels
and canopy have been installed and are awaiting installation of the signage.
. Systems Update: The new printer has arrived and is awaiting install. Two new staff
microcomputers were installed.
. Comments/Suggestions: Suggestions relating to the acquisition of new books,
movies and periodicals were given to Public Services staff for evaluation and follow-
up. This month received two comments regarding the interfiling ofY A audiobooks
with the Y A books. Staff responded to both patrons stating that after six months they
will evaluate the audios usage at that time. Staff responded to request of buying more
copies ofDVD's to reduce wait time.
5. SUMMER READING PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: The theme for 2007 Summer
Reading Club is "Sail Away With Books". The June and July calendars with the summer
activities listed were passed out to the board members.

6. DISCUSSION AND INPUT ON NON-RESIDENCY CARDS: Discussion on the
library no longer offering free cards to non-residents starting in October 2007. The library will
give free library cards to residents of cities that provide reciprocal and comparable library
services to residences of Coppell. Comparable services will be measured by the local tax support
provided to a city's library. Staff will notify the State that the library is changing its Loan Star
Libraries Status to reflect non-residency cards. Douglas Johnson moved that the board support
the concept of non-residency cards and Tom Trahan seconded the motion. Carried.
8. ADJOURNMENT: David Smith moved and Meme Collins- Tabuena seconded to
adjourn at 8:15 p.m. Carried.
