RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS
WHEREAS, on March 27, 1973, the Communist Government of North
Vietnam released those they claimed to be the last of the American Prisoners
of War and,
WHERAS, the document signed by both the United States and North
Vietnam called for, among other things, a cooperative effort to obtain an
accounting of over 1,300 American military and civilian men listed as Missing
In Action in Southeast Asia and,
WHEREAS, to this date the Communist representatives to the Joint
Peace Commission have steadfastly refused to even discuss the topic of accounting
and,
WHEREAS, Senator Edward J. Gurney from the state of Florida has
introduced an amendment to the House Foreign Trade Act of December, 1973,
to bring economic pressure on all Communist nations until they persuade North
Vietnam to comply with the Peace Agreement and allow an accounting of our men
still Missing In Action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS, does hereby pledge their support of the Gurney
Amendment (#1194) to the Foreign Trade Act of December, 1973, and be it
further resolved that:
1. A copy of this resolution be sent to the offices of Senator John Tower,
Senator Lloyd Bentsen, and Senator Russell B. Long strongly recommending
their fullest support in favor of the said Gurney Amendment and,
2. That the above named Senators urge support of the Gurney Amendment
among their colleagues.
