Minutes of Meeting
August 16, 2007
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on August 16, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Brent Wooten, Chairman, Chris Reed, Vice Chairman, John Dobson, Cindy Geppert and Tom Hudon.
Student Advisors present: James Halpin, Janice Kim, and Zach Flores. City Liaison Amanda Vanhoozier,
Community Programs Supervisor, and Carrie Stevenson, Special Events Coordinator, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Brent Wooten, Chairman, called meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of May 17, 2007, Minutes
?
Tom Hudon made a motion to approve minutes.
John Dobson seconded the motion.
Vote: 5-0, approved.
Item 3: Citizen’s Forum
?
Ellie Halpin, 100 Tanbark Circle, brought forth an Adopt a Location agreement.
Item 4: Presentation to Citizens’ Advocate for Winning the 2007 Keep Texas Beautiful
Media Newspaper Award Second. Place.
?
Jean Murph, Citizens’ Advocate Editor, was unable to attend the meeting. Amanda
will take the certificate to their office.
Item 5: Consider Approval of 07-08 Board Youth Advisor Recommendations from
Interview Subcommittee
?
Brent Wooten and Cindy Geppert had interviewed five youth applicants and made
recommendations.
?
Discussion on limiting the youth advisors for the board to two positions and how
hard it is to choose.
?
Vote: 4-0, 1 abstained.
Item 6: Discussion on the Adopt a Locations
?
New agreements were presented: Riverside Church of Christ (Beltline Rd.-Denton
Tap east to RR) and Youth Group (Andy Brown Park Central) and the Hard 8 BBQ
(Bethel Rd. Coppell Rd. to Denton Tap).
?
Board will make contact with AAL groups about their end of summer clean ups.
Amanda will email the lists.

Next KCB AAL Clean up on September 22.
Item 7:Discussion on the TXDOT Landscape Project
?
Amanda will set up a meeting with TXDOT landscape architect to discuss design
ideas. John Dobson, Cindy Geppert, and Tom Hudon offered to be on the
subcommittee.
Item 8: Update on CMS West Recycling
?
James Halpin has been working with a recycling committee this summer. The raffle
at CMSW allowed them to purchase 15 recycling bins for the cafeteria, and they want
to order 10 more. A trial run is scheduled after the first 6 weeks. James also reported
on the Recycling tour he took at Clemson.
Item 9: Community Programs Report

Coppell Community Garden
- Share the Harvest over 6,000 pounds to date in 2007.
Waiting list for gardeners. Planting the fall gardens now and volunteers have logged in
over 2000 hours.

Coppell Farmers Market -
There are 16 vendors selling organic produce, natural meats,
seafood, coffee and tea, dog treats, honey, breads, cottage cheese/yogurt, fruits and
vegetables, plants, salsa and preserves. Frisco has opened a FM with CFM as a model.

Coppell Community Garden Education
- Jr. Master Gardener classes taught over 80
students in a four week period in June. Summer Wildlife series has not been well
attended. Coming up: Bloom’n Hot Tour and Rainwater Harvesting. Volunteers needed
to help.

Master Composters of Coppell
- Maintaining compost bins at both CCG. Next seminar

Coppell Nature Park -
Formed a non-profit organization, Friends of the Coppell Nature
Park Foundation. They are building an observation deck, and the public is invited to help

Coppell Oaktober Fest -
October 20, 5-10pm. Music, food, fun. Bring your friends and
neighbors!

Awarded: Keep Texas Beautiful Governors Community Achievement Award-
Second Place and Sustained Excellence Award. Citizens’ Advocate won second place
Media/Newspaper Award.
