Minutes of Meeting
November 6, 2007
The Coppell Animal Services Board met on November 6, 2007, at 6:00 p.m.,
Animal Shelter, 821 S. Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members
present: Tom Sawyer, Tressa Broadhead, and Reid Garfield. City Liaisons I�
Hedrick, Derrick Watson, and Margaret Macheca, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Item 3: Mangers Notes
Heather Hedrick introduced the staff. She talked about the spay/neuter program
funded with donations and how it will decrease the number of citations we write. She
also talked about posters at City Hall and the library to promote shelter adop ons.
Item 4: Board Meeting and Requirements
Derrick Watson discussed board requirements and reasons for existei

Heather Hedrick reviewed the monthly report format and offered to 1

Reid Garfield inquired as to how a determination is made about if a c
dog appeal goes to court or to the appeals board. If criminal charges are inv
case it usually goes straight to the magistrate.
Item 5: Board Member Questions/Comments
Tressa Broadhead inquired about the euthanasia numbers for the mol
October. It was discussed that feral cats had been a problem of late. Feral c

tangible items such as towels and pet food. We put the items to use in the sl

Reid Garfield inquired about the age restrictions for vaccination and ste lization
of animals. The Texas Department of Health says that vaccinations shall occur o later
than 4 months of age and that sterilizations shall occur at five months of age. T e shelter
follows those guidelines.
Tom Sawyer inquired about the training Animal Control Officers receiv on
animal behavior. Margaret Macheca reviewed the Texas State Certification class format.
Most hands on training is done here at the shelter and in the field. The City has created a
10 week training program for all new officers.
Tom Sawyer inquired about the regulation of other boarding facilities in Coppell.
The Animal Services Office issues permits to both boarding and breeding facili ies.

Discussion on the problem in Coppell, handling of these cats and the
