Beautiful day, good turn out with 1636 volunteers. Registration went really well. 140 tires and 32 tons brought in. We had $8,361.00 in donations, grants and sponsorships. ? Food service was a problem because the pizzas were not delivered on time and the amount was not as promised. Do we really need to serve a lunch? Maybe just give out ice cream bars, bring sack lunches or have food vendors. ? The balloon ladies needed their own tent. Needed more directions for other places, and more locations for families with small children, maybe in their own neighborhoods. ? Not all Adopt a Location groups signed up to work. There was still trash left on the roads after the clean up. Item 5: Consider Approval of the Plan of Action for 07-08 ? Amanda Vanhoozier highlighted the goals and objectives for the year. See attached list. ? TX DOT landscape project committee needs to be activated. ? Discussed turning this board into a 5013C non-profit organization rather than being council appointed. It would have autonomy, a budget, be stronger and draw from businesses and school district having more arms in the community. A budget request was made this year for a Keep Coppell Beautiful coordinator who would handle a lot of this. The bylaws would need to be amended. Lewisville and Irving have non-profit organizations. Future agenda item. ? The governor’s award was submitted for this year and looked even better than last year’s. Working toward 2009 and need to keep the score above 90 for three years. There would be more projects to document if we were non-profit. ? Cindy Geppert made the motion to approve the plan with later additions to be made. Chris Reed seconded the motion. Approved 6-0 Item 6: Orientation: Beautification and Water Conservation ? Amanda Vanhoozier shared about a lot of the beautification in Coppell. Because the city parks department keeps everything mowed and planted, we have concentrated on inner beauty not outer beauty. We teach people about resource and water conservation in landscaping with Texas Smartscape classes, community gardens, and Master Composter seminars. ? The city manager sent aerators to all homes to reduce water usage. We have had water talks at Farmers Market with the Upper Trinity Water District, Soils Alive and landscape designers. An Eagle Scout put in a Smartscape at the market to demonstrate the possibilities. Smartscape is going in everywhere in Coppell because it uses less water. ?
