Minutes of Meeting
January 17, 2008
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on January 17, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Chairman Brent Wooten, Vice Chairman Cheryl Colmery, Carole Gayler, Chris Reed, Angie Huff, Tom
Hudon, and Mary Karish. Student Advisors present: James Halpin and Geetika Rao. City Liaison Amanda
Vanhoozier, Community Programs Supervisor, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were
present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Brent Wooten, Chairman, called meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of November 15, 2007, Minutes
?
Minutes approved with change of date of next meeting to January 17, 2008.
Item 3: Citizen’s Forum
?
Shannon Olmstead, 534 Cooper, Coppell, TX 75109, 972-472-3278, observed.
Item 4: Consider Approval of the Clean Coppell Earth Fest Planner
?
The board approved having various food vendors, giving vouchers to volunteers for
refreshments, revamping the T-shirts, and recognizing the schools for their bottle and
can recycling program.
?
Angie Huff and Carole Gayler will pick up and deliver Kroger (Tom Thumb) bags
for the Earth Bag project.
Item 5: Consider Approval of Governors Community Achievement Award Application
?
The board approved Amanda Vanhoozier submitting a brief application before the
February deadline.
Item 6: Discussion of Adopt A Location Program and Renewals
?
Amanda Vanhoozier urged the board to contact their AAL groups to get their 2008
renewals turned in.
Item 7: Discussion of Chamber of Commerce Partnership
?
Mary Karish reported that she and Amanda Vanhoozier met with the Chamber of
Commerce president who declined setting up a Keep Coppell Beautiful table for
community information purposes.

Amanda Vanhoozier suggested approaching their new Greenstorming Group with
KCB resources and doing a presentation.
Item 8: Orientation: Coppell Recycles
?
Amanda Vanhoozier presented information on recycling.
Item 9: Update on Coppell 2030 Vision
?
Brent Wooten updated the board on how the project will impact Keep Coppell
Beautiful in the future. He encouraged others to get involved in the committee work.
Item 10: Community Programs Report
1. Community Programs Coordinator position was frozen. The position would have
been working with the Keep Coppell Beautiful Board and programs. Every effort will
be made to continue seamlessly by analyzing programs based on mandates and the
KCB missions and relying on increased volunteer involvement.
2. Recycling in the Schools -
Coppell Middle School North has submitted their plan,
and this week was the first pick up. Pinkerton and Mockingbird submitted their plans
and will soon start up. James Halpin, Youth Advisor, has been promoting and
mentoring the various schools and student groups to help this initiative along the
way.
Coppell Community Garden
3. - The CCG Board had approved the 2008 Board of
Directors and will focus on promotion of the community gardens, farmers market,
and environmental education throughout the year. They are refining the org. website,
www.coppellcommunitygarden.org to make it as useful as possible for the
community.
Coppell Farmers Market
4. - The last market was held on November 17. CFM will
start their sixth year in spring 2008.
Master Composters of Coppell
5. - Master Composter Seminar will be held on Feb.
21-23. This is a good foundation for KCB and community members to understand
solid waste and recycling issues.
E-Cycling Collection
6. - was held on Jan. 5. We had over 50 volunteers from the
Coppell Hockey Assoc. to unload 500 cars at the event. There has not been a final
tonnage report from ARC Intern., the electronics recycler, or Ecophones, the cell
phone recycler.
Holiday Parade
7. was on Dec. 2. Only two KCB Board members were in the parade
with the promotional trailer.
