BM 2008-02-21 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting February 21, 2008 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on February 21, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Chairman Brent Wooten, Vice Chairman Cheryl Colmery, Carole Gayler, Chris Reed, Tom Hudon, and Rebecca Carter (replacing Mary Karish, who resigned). Student Advisors present: James Halpin and Geetika Rao. City Liaison Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Supervisor, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present. Item 1: Call Meeting to Order ? Brent Wooten, Chairman, called meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of January 17, 2008, Minutes ? Minutes approved 6-0. Item 3: Citizen’s Forum ? Guy Gage, 205 River Road, Coppell, TX, 75019, 972-922-9215, observed. Item 4: Discussion of Adopt A Location Program and Renewals ? Board changed deadline for submitting renewals to the end of February. ? Signs will be covered and marked available if no response is received. ? The board’s next pick up date is March 29, 2008. Item 5: Update on Coppell 2030 Vision ? Brent Wooten reported that 150 people attended the last meeting. ? Coppell 2030 Vision is concerned with the environment, revitalization, tax plans, etc., in Coppell. Item 6: Update on School Recycling ? CMS North is doing well. ? CHS turned in a plan and is getting a grant for receptacles. ? Compass brings their recycling over to CMS West. ? CMS East will start recycling after the break. ? The board will recognize schools at Earthfest in April. ? James Halpin will create a CMS West Dairy Max milk bottle recycling DVD for the Child Nutrition Conference to be held in Corpus Christi. Item 7: Community Programs Report ? Governors Award - LandscapeDesign ideas have been passed to TXDOT where the landscapers will be working up the plan at 121. There is still talk about responsibility of that section as now it is a toll road. ? Coppell Community Garden - The CCG has had their annual garden signup with only a couple of extra beds. The CCG Education Committee has set their class schedule for the year, and it is posted on the website calendar: www.coppellcommunitygarden.org ? Coppell Farmers Market - CFM will start the sixth market season on April 12, 2008. The city will be working on a larger parking lot with another access drive and resurfacing the CFM area. ? Chamber of Commerce Green Storming Committee - The Chamber has a monthly sustainability discussion and action group meeting on the first Friday at noon. They will have a booth at Clean Coppell Earthfest promoting recycling in Coppell. ? E-Cycling Collection - The collection poundage has not been finalized from the January pick up but is estimated at 17 Tons. ? School Recycling at CHS - A plan has been developed by the Environmental Studies Class and has been funded by a grant for the collection receptacles. ? Arbor Day will be celebrated at Clean Coppell Earthfest on April 5, 2008. New Business to be placed on next meeting agenda: ? Planning for Earth Fest ? Recognize green businesses (Carol Colmery and Becca Carter) ? Review and approve letter to CISD on recycling (James Halpin) ? AAL updates ? Volunteer hours ADJOURNMENT ?
