Minutes of Meeting
March 27, 2008
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on March 27, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Chairman Brent Wooten, Vice Chairman Cheryl Colmery, Carole Gayler, Chris Reed, Tom Hudon, Angie
Huff and Rebecca Carter. Student Advisors present: James Halpin and Geetika Rao. City Liaison Amanda
Vanhoozier, Community Programs Supervisor, Perri Kittles, Environmental Health Officer, and Phyllis
Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Cheryl Colmery called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of February 21, 2008, Minutes

Minutes approved 6-0.
Item 3: Citizen’s Forum
?
No citizens present
Item 4: Presentation and Discussion on Residential Recycling and Solid Waste
Amanda Vanhoozier, staff liaison, gave a presentation on residential recycling and solid
waste management:

Environmental - Litter, Storm Water Management, Air Quality
?
Neighborhood Integrity – Loose Trash, Messy Look, Broken Cans, Animals
?
Customer Service – Ruts in Yards, Missed P/Us on Saturday
?
Health and Safety – Sharps in bags, lifting of containers by residents
Solutions and Discussion:
?
Large carts for recycling and trash
?
Reduce size if needed in 6 months
?
Increase number of carts with fee
?
Pick up trash one time per week
?
Pick up recycling two times per month
?
Continue with yard trimmings collection
?
Storage of containers - enforce ordinance
?
Education: HOAs; signs; water bill inserts; website; newspapers; stickers on
containers
?
Grabber truck for tree trimmings
Item 5: Discussion of Clean Coppell Earthfest
?
KCB Board will arrive at 8:45am to run registration booth at Clean Coppell on April
5. An update was distributed to Board with publicity, sponsors, T-shirts, booths.
?
Keep Coppell Beautiful will pick up on Saturday, March 29. Meet at Riverside
Church at 8:30 a.m.
Item 6: Discussion of Letter to CISD New Tech Recycling

Item 8: Community Programs Report

Coppell Community Garden
- All the garden plots are adopted, and the
Share the Harvest has started this year to Metrocrest Social Services.

Coppell Farmers Market
- CFM will start their sixth season April 12, 2008.
?
Coppell Community Garden Education
- The Educational calendar is
available on the new website www.coppellcommunitygarden.org. Square Foot
Gardening this Sat. at 11am Town Center Council Chambers. The recycling
promotion trailer will be at several events throughout the spring and summer.

School Recycling –
CHS and Denton Creek have just started bottles and cans
recycling this week.

Arbor Day
will be a part of Clean Coppell on April 5.
?
Greenstorming Group
at the Coppell Chamber of Commerce still wants to
have help with business recycling.
