Minutes of Meeting
August 21, 2008
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on August 21, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Chairman Brent Wooten, Carole Gayler, Cheryl Colmery, Tom Hudon, and Angie Huff. City Liaison
Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs Supervisor, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation
Secretary, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Brent Wooten called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of May 15, 2008, Minutes
?
Minutes approved 5-0.
Item 3: Citizen’s Forum
?
No citizens present.
Item 4: Recognition of James Halpin, Keep Texas Beautiful Youth Leadership Awards
Winner
?
Item tabled until September 18, 2008, meeting.
Item 5: Consider Approval of Youth Advisor Recommendations for 08-09
?
Brent Wooten and Tom Hudon interviewed the three candidates before the meeting
tonight and James Halpin and Paul Chung were recommended as youth advisors for
2008-09.
?
Recommendation approved: 5-0
Item 6: Discussion of Adopt-a-Locations
?
Due to the amount of trash sightings in Coppell, a diligent effort is needed to contact
AAL members and encourage them to pick up their locations. Tom Hudon spoke
with the Kroger Store manager about the appearance of his property and was pleased
to see great results the next day.
?
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board will meet on September 6, 2008, at Moore and
Beltline Road to pick up the KCB location. Tom Hudon took the opportunity to clean
the site himself this summer. Brent Wooten will send reminder emails and pick up
vests for the cleanup.
Item 7: Discussion of KCB Criteria for Green Business Recognition
?
Carole Gayler and Cheryl Colmery have gathered information and will organize and
present it to the board at a later date.
?
Amanda Vanhoozier explained how the City of Coppell is implementing an
environmental management system to reduce impact, resources, and risk.
?
Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful is a very good role model for green business
recognition.
?
The Coppell Chamber of Commerce Greenstorming Committee will meet on
September 5, at noon, for a brown bag lunch focusing on business recycling.
Item 8: Community Programs Report
?
School Recycling -
After the KCB letter was sent to CMS East, New Tech High, and
Austin Elementary, we received school recycling plans from East with promises of
plans from the other schools for the 08-09 school year.
?
TXDOT Landscape -
The TXDOT Landscape architect is drawing up new plans for
Freeport and 635 on the northwest corner.

Coppell Community Garden
- Share the Harvest has over 7,000 pounds of fresh
picked produce donated to Metrocrest Social Services. Both gardens are trying to get
everyone in from the waiting list for fall gardens. This year the CCG has sold 60 rain
barrels with education on rain harvesting.

Coppell Farmers Market
- Dallas Morning News Taste Section stated that CFM is
considered the best small market in the Metroplex. The CFM has 24 steady vendors.

Bloom’n Hot Tour -
August 23, 9-noon. Meet at the Coppell Community Garden by
Town Center for garden tour guides.
?
Greenstorming Group
at the Coppell Chamber of Commerce meets the first Friday
at noon at the chamber office. They are working towards being a resource for
business recycling.

Waste Survey -
Results of the Turco Waste Survey will be presented at the City
Council on August 26, 7pm, in the Council Chambers.

Community Programs Coordinator –
The City position has been opened and
posted this summer after being frozen last December. The new position will be the
liaison to the Keep Coppell Beautiful Board.
