Minutes of Meeting
October 17, 2008
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on October 17, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Chairman Brent Wooten, Tom Hudon, Angie Huff, Craig Pritzlaff, Brandi Todd, Shannon Olmstead, James
Halpin and Paul Chung, Student Advisors. City Liaison Amanda Vanhoozier, Community Programs
Supervisor, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Brent Wooten called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
Item 2: Presentation of Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful Clean Company Program
?
Tammy Chen, Clean Company Program Special Projects Coordinator, with the City of
Grand Prairie presented information on their Clean Company and Green & Clean
Builder programs. These programs award businesses and builders who clean up their
business or construction sites and recycle.
Item 3: Consider Approval of KCB 08-09 Chair and Co-Chair
?
The board elected Brent Wooten as Chair and Tom Hudon as Co-Chair.
Vote: 6-0
Item 4: Consider Approval of August 21, 2008, Minutes
?
Minutes approved 6-0.
Item 5: Citizen’s Forum
?
Carolyn Standridge and Ken Hevron
Item 6: Consider Approval of CCG Annual Report and 08-09 Community Improvement
Funds
?
The board approved the $25,000 Community Improvement Fund.
Vote: 6-0
Item 7: Discussion and Consider Approval of KCB Criteria for Green Business Recognition
?
The board discussed levels of participation and working with the Chamber of
Commerce.
?
A subcommittee was formed consisting of Brandi Todd, Craig Pritzlaff and Angie
Huff with Shannon Olmstead serving as sub.
?
Approval of criteria was tabled for future agenda.
Item 8:Discussion of Adopt-a-Locations
?
The board discussed the various groups, locations and pickup schedules.
?
The Keep Coppell Beautiful board will meet on Saturday, November 22, 7 a.m., at
Moore Rd. and Beltline Rd. for trash pickup.
Item 9: Recognition of James Halpin, Keep Texas Beautiful Youth Leadership Awards
Winner
?
The board recognized and congratulated James Halpin on his Keep Texas Beautiful
Youth Leadership Award and for all his work in organizing the Coppell schools
recycling programs.
Item 10: Community Programs Report
?
1. Coppell Community Garden
- Share the Harvest donated over 10,000 pounds to
date. Held the Bloomn’ Hot Tour. Thank you card, Texas SmartScape sign, and bag
of organic fertilizer presented to the four homeowners on the tour. Gardens have been
toured by other cities, churches, schools, and organizations that want to start
community gardens. CCG was mentioned in an article in the Ft. Worth Star Telegram
on October 11.

2. Coppell Farmers Market
- There are 24 vendors selling organic produce, natural
meats, seafood, coffee and tea, dog treats, honey, breads, cottage cheese/yogurt, fruits
and vegetables, plants, salsa and preserves. New vendor is a dairy selling milk and
yogurt. The Old Town Coppell Festival on October 4 was very well attended.

3. Master Composters of Coppell
- Master Composter Seminar is October 23-25.
Instructor is Larry Wilhelm. Very good basic sustainable living classes.

4. Wildflower Seeding at Moore Road Park,
Oct. 18, 9am.
?
5. Coppell Oaktober Fest -
October 18, 5-10pm. Andy Brown Community Park
East. Music, food, fun. Bring your friends and neighbors!
?
6. Texas Recycles Day, E-Cycling -
November 15, 9am to Noon. Town Center.
GEEP will be doing the electronics collection with their staff and equipment.
Monitors $5 and TVs $10, all other free drop off.
?
7. XDOT Landscape -
The TXDOT Landscape architect is drawing up new plans
for Freeport and 635 on the northwest corner that will include a large tree area.

8. Community Programs Coordinator -
Soon to be hired and will be the new city
liaison to Keep Coppell Beautiful.
?
9. Greenstorming Group
meets at the Chamber of Commerce first Friday of the
month at noon focusing on business recycling.
