Minutes of Meeting
February 19, 2009
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on January 15, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Chairman Brent Wooten, Tom Hudon, Brandi Todd, Shannon Olmstead, Carole Gayler, Paul Chung and
James Halpin, Student Advisors. City Liaison Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis
Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Brent Wooten called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of January 15, 2009, Minutes
?
Correction to Item 5: “The Boy Scout troop would like to adopt the pond at end of
Gifford through Andrew Brown East Park.”
?
Correction to Item 7: “There will be no litter getter contest or trunk sale.”
?
Minutes approved with corrections, 5-0
Item 3: Citizen’s Forum
?
No citizens present.
Item 4: Discussion and Update of Adopt-a-Location 2009 Renewals
?
New contracts include SADD, The Burb, Curran Company and Happy Endings
Productions.
?
Cristal Rollins will do a press release in order to fill the seven remaining openings.
Item 5: Discussion and Approval of Green Business Program
?
Pamphlets will be given to Northlake College, MSigns, First Baptist Church, the
Chamber of Commerce and Bob Freeman before finalizing.
?
MSigns will sponsor the window decals.
?
Roll out of program will be at Earthfest on April 4, 2009.
?
Change cover to read “Recognizing Coppell-area businesses and organizations that
are active in doing their part in helping the environment.’
?
The board approved as written with future modifications as necessary. 5-0.
Item 6: Discussion and Approval of KCB’s Earthfest Activities
?
Earthfest is Saturday, April 4, 2009, 9 a.m.
?
KCB booth will contain educational information, AAL signups, blue cart
information, Green Business information and information and signups for litter pick
up.
?
The board discussed giving helium-filled balloons or wildflower seed packets to
children.
?
The board approved without the balloons, 5-0. Cristal will research other ideas that
are environmentally friendly and usable within the budget.
Item 7: Community Programs Report
?
KCB Report to Council
– Tuesday, March 24, meeting – 7:00 p.m. @ Council
Chambers. We will have a proclamation for the Green Business program at the
meeting too.
?
KCB Litter Pick-Up
– Saturday, February 21, at 7:30 a.m.
?
KCB Litter Index Survey
– Saturday, March 21, at 8:30 a.m.
?
Clean Coppell
– Registration ends March 4. Cleanup period is March 14through
March 28. Groups can sign up at Earthfest and complete their cleanup that day also,
as well as pickup their supplies from pre-registration, if they don’t pick them up on
March12 or 13.
?
Governor’s Community Achievement Award
– KCB’s entry was submitted the
first week of February. KTB has changed the population categories, and Coppell has
moved up to Category 7 (25,001 to 60,000). We cannot win this year because not
enough time has passed since we won in 2006. Winners will be announced in mid-
March.
?
KTB Awards
– Nominations for the community garden and the City of Coppell were
submitted last week. Winners will be announced April 1.
?
Coppell Community Garden
– Youth Action hours began on Saturday, February 14
and will continue from 8-10 a.m. every Saturday until mid-November.
?
Coppell Farmers Market
- The CFM will reopen in April 11, 2009.
?
Master Composters Seminar
– The spring Master Composters Seminar will be held
Thursday, February 26, through Saturday, February 28. Thursday and Friday session
from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday’s session is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Service
Center.

TXDOT Landscape
- The TXDOT landscape architect is drawing up new plans for
Freeport and 635 on the northwest corner that will include a large tree area.
