BM 2009-03-19 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting March 19, 2009 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on March 19, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Chairman Brent Wooten, Brandi Todd, Shannon Olmstead, Craig Pritzlaff, Angie Huff, Paul Chung and James Halpin, Student Advisors. City Liaison Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present. Item 1: Call Meeting to Order ? Brent Wooten called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of February 19, 2009, Minutes ? Minutes approved 4-0. Item 3: Citizen’s Forum ? No citizens present. Item 4: Update of Adopt-a-Location ? Cristal Rollins reported that Keller Williams, God’s Girls, the Exchange Club and State Farm will not be renewing; therefore, these locations are available for adoption. Kone Elevator is interested in a location, and board members are encouraged to find other interested companies and individuals. The total locations adopted is 43. Item 5: Discussion of Green Business Program ? Brandi Todd, Craig Pritzlaff and Angie Huff reported that pamphlets were sent out on March 18 to sample businesses and schools. Mass roll out of information will be on April 4 at Earthfest. Brandi Todd has some green hats that she suggested everyone wear at Earthfest. ? Brent Wooten, Chairman, congratulated Brandi Todd, Craig Pritzlaff and Angie Huff for all their hard work on this project, stating that the Green Business initiative will be the 2008-2009 board’s legacy to Keep Coppell Beautiful just as Clean Coppell was eight years ago. Item 6: Discussion of Clean Coppell Earthfest ? Cristal Rollins reported that there are 1200 volunteers and 45 vendor and craft booths. KCB will have a booth with Green Team and Adopt-a-Location information, sign-up sheets and directions, T-shirts and wildflower balls to make. There will be two shifts: 8-10:30 and 10:30-1:00. Item 7: Community Programs Report ? Recycling Carts – 58% of homes set out their carts in February, and we had a 17% diversion rate for February. GOALS: 65% participation rate and 19% diversion rate. ? KCB Report to Council – Tuesday, March 24, 7:00 p.m., at Council Chambers. ? Arbor Day Proclamation – Tuesday, March 24, Council meeting ? KCB Litter Index Survey – Saturday, March 21, at 8:30 a.m. Meet at Service Center by 8:30 a.m. ? Coppell Community Garden – 430 lbs. harvested in January – record for January. Will hit 100,000 lbs. of produce harvested in summer 2009 ? CCG Education Classes – Saturday, March 28, at 2:00 p.m. (Howard Garrett – organic products and gardening at council chambers); Sunday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m. (Lana Kelley – vegetable gardening 101 at Grow It); Saturday, April 25, at 9:00 a.m. (Rain Barrel/Rain Harvesting at CARC – this is a “make and take” class. There will be a $15 charge for this class.) ? Coppell Farmers Market - The CFM will reopen on April 11, 2009. ? TXDOT Landscape - The TXDOT Landscape architect is drawing up new plans for Freeport and 635 on the northwest corner that will include a large tree area. ? Upcoming Events – Saturday, April 4, 9:00-1:00 – Earthfest; Saturday, April 11, 11:00 – Egg Hunt at Wagon Wheel (kids 10 & under); Saturday, May 9, 9:00 – 1:00 – Family Fish at AB East.
