BM 2009-04-16 KCB Keep Coppell Beautiful Minutes of Meeting April 16, 2009 The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on April 16, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present: Chairman Brent Wooten, Shannon Olmstead, Craig Pritzlaff, Angie Huff, Tom Hudon, and Paul Chung and James Halpin, Student Advisors. City Liaison Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present. Item 1: Call Meeting to Order ? Brent Wooten called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Item 2: Consider Approval of March 19, 2009, Minutes ? Minutes approved 5-0. Item 3: Citizen’s Forum ? No citizens present. Item 4: Discussion and Vote on Holding June and July Meetings ? The board discussed canceling the June 18 and July 16 meetings. ? Vote 5-0 to cancel both meetings and reconvene on August 20. ?th The board will meet on May 21 to discuss the July 4 parade. Item 5: Discussion of Adopt-a-Locations and approval of KCB pick-up date ? Cristal Rollins reported 48 groups plus the mayor and council. ? Cristal Rollins noted the AAL article in the Coppell Gazette. ? The board will pick up their location on Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 a.m. ? Coppell Litter Index at 1.6 average. Item 6: Discussion and Approval of Green Team Changes ? Cristal Rollins reported that nine groups have signed up and are at Level 3. The board discussed raising the point level and grandfathering these nine groups. A fourth level could be added eventually. ? Cristal Rollins will do a press release to acknowledge these groups. ? The board voted to revise the Green Team application: Level 1 to 15, Level 2 to 40 and Level 3 to 60. Vote 5-0 approved. Item 7: Final Wrap-up of Clean Coppell Earthfest ? Cristal Rollins reported that there were 1,257 volunteers, 39 city employee volunteers, 5 outside volunteers, collected 80 cubic yards of trash, 4,700 pounds of paper were shredded, collected 300 pounds of clothing goods, 13 senior citizen yard projects were completed, and 5,137 pounds of litter were picked up. There were 26 educational exhibitors. ? Problems reported included having more loud speakers for music and announcements at the south end of the plaza area. Overall, people were well-pleased with the event and the location. ? Keep Coppell Beautiful could use two tents next year. Item 8: Community Programs Report (written) ? Recycling Carts – Haven’t received the March report from Waste Management yet. GOALS: 65% participation rate and 19% diversion rate. ?nd Keep Texas Beautiful Awards - the City of Coppell won 2 place in the government/city program category for the ecoCoppell initiative, and the Coppell nd Community Garden won 2 place in the civic organization project/program category. Awards will be given out at the KTB conference in June. ? Coppell Community Garden – 622.5 lbs harvested in March. 269.5 lbs away from 100,000 lbs of produce harvested! ? CCG Education Classes – Howard Garrett class in March had 61 in attendance, Vegetable Gardening 101 on April 5 had 71 in attendance. Saturday, April 25, at 9:00 a.m. - Rain Barrel/Rain Harvesting at CARC – is full. Next rain barrel class will be held on Saturday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m. at the Fire Training Room ($15 for class and rain barrel) ? Coppell Farmers Market – opened on April 11. Open every Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m. between now and November 21. ? TXDOT Landscape – Nothing new. The TXDOT Landscape architect is drawing up new plans for Freeport and 635 on the northwest corner that will include a large tree area. ? Upcoming Events – Saturday, May 9, 9:00-1:00: Family Fish at AB East Park. New Business to be placed on next meeting agenda: ?th July 4 parade ADJOURNMENT ?
