ORDINANCE NO. 2009 -1234
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COPPELL, TEXAS, AMENDING
CHAPTER 9, "GENERAL REGULATIONS" BY AMENDING SECTION 9 -1-
8, "ANIMAL APPEALS AND ADVISORY BOARD," SUBSECTION (E), BY
DELETING ALL REFERENCES TO CHAPTER 826 (RABIES CONTROL
ACT OF 1981) AND REPLACING THE SAME WITH CHAPTER 823
(ANIMAL SHELTERS); PROVIDING A REPEALING CLAUSE;
PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 9 -1 -8 (E) of the Code of Ordinances provides a reference to Chapter
826, being the Rabies Control Act of 1981; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to amend Section 9 -1 -8, subsection (E), by deleting the
reference to Chapter 826 and replacing the same with a reference to Chapter 823 (Animal Shelters);
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF COPPELL,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 9 of the Code of Ordinances be, and the same is, hereby
amended by amending Section 9 -1 -8, "Animal Appeals and Advisory Board," subsection (E), by
deleting the reference to Chapter 826 (Rabies Control Act of 1981) and replacing the sane with
Chapter 823 (Animal Shelters), which shall read as follows:
"CHAPTER 9. GENERAL REGULATIONS
Sec. 9 -1 -8. Animal Appeals and Advisory Board.
(E) The appeals board provided herein shall compliance with Chapter 823
(Animal Shelters), of the TEXAS HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE, as amended."
SECTION 2. That all provisions of the Ordinances of the City of Coppell, Texas, in
conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be, and the same are hereby, repealed, and all other
provisions of the Ordinances of the City not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall
remain in full force and effect.

SECTION 3. That should any word, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase or
section of this ordinance, or of the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, be adjudged or held to
be void or unconstitutional, the same shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of said
ordinance or the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, which shall remain in full force and
effect.
SECTION 4. An offense committed before the effective date of this ordinance is
governed by prior law and the provisions of the Code of Ordinances, as amended, in effect when
the offense was committed and the former law is continued in effect for this purpose.
SECTION 5. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage
as the law and charter in such cases provide.
