Minutes of Meeting
August 20, 2009
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on August 20, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the
Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were present:
Co-Chairman Tom Hudon, Shannon Olmstead, Carole Gayler, Craig Pritzlaff,, Brandi Todd and Paul Chung,
Student Advisor. City Liaison Cristal Rollins, Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd,
Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Tom Hudon called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.
Item 2: Update on Household Hazardous Waste from Environmental Health Department
?
Perri Kittles, Coppell Environmental Health Officer, informed the board about Coppell’s
hazardous waste disposal program.
?
Citizens are encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible and are
directed to the city’s website for information on various hazardous waste products and
their disposal.
?
One-time vouchers to the disposal center in Ft. Worth are paid for by the city and given
to households with hazardous waste. Additional vouchers may be purchased by citizens
from the Upper Trinity Water District at a cost of $58 each.
Item 3: Consider Approval of May 21, 2009, Minutes
?
Minutes approved 5-0.
Item 4: Citizens’ Forum
?
Ron Curran, 416 Kaye, Coppell
Item 5: Consider Recommendations for 09-10 Youth Advisor Candidates
?
Tom Hudon, Brandi Todd, Shannon Olmstead and Cristal Rollins interviewed seven
candidates. Tom Hudon and Brandi Todd recommended four from which two were
approved by the board.
Item 6: Discussion and Approval of Green Team Change(s)
?
Suggestion was made and approved to add clean yard care to the brochure with a 10
point score.
Item 7: Update on Adopt-a-Location Program
?
Keller Williams and Clean Air Lawn Care joined the program, and Remax dropped
out.
?
Cristal Rollins encouraged the board members to contact their people by the end of
August to remind them to do their pick ups.
?
KCB will pick up their area Saturday, August 29, at 8 a.m.
Item 8: Community Programs Report (written)

1. Recycling Carts
– GOALS: 65% participation rate and 19% diversion rate.

3. Coppell Community Garden
– Upcoming classes: Fall Planting 101 – Sunday,
September 20; Perennials in the Butterfly Garden – Saturday, September 26;
Growing Citrus in N. Texas – Saturday, October 3. Full list of classes on CCG
website calendar.

4. Coppell Farmers Market
– Fall Festival – October 10, closes November 21
?
5. Master Composter Seminar –
Part 1: Saturday, October 24 – 8-4 and Part 2:
Saturday, October 31 – 8-4. Minimum of 8 people required or class will be canceled.

6. TXDOT Landscape
– Construction bids opened in August, and construction
should start in late September.

7. Upcoming Events
– Music on the Plaza – Friday nights in August; Wildflower
Seeding – Saturday, October 18 - 9:00 a.m. @ Moore Road Park; Oak Fest –
Saturday, October 18 – 5:00-10:00 p.m. @ Andrew Brown East.
