Minutes of Meeting
November 19, 2009
The Keep Coppell Beautiful Board met on November 19, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at
the Coppell Service Center, 816 South Coppell Rd., Coppell, Texas. The following members were
present: Craig Pritzlaff,, Shannon Olmstead, David Caviness, Charles Dart, Samuel Duff, Brandi Todd,
Carole Gaylor and Student Advisors Geetika Rao and Elizabeth Meyer. City Liaison Cristal Rollins,
Community Programs Coordinator, and Phyllis Shepherd, Parks and Recreation Secretary, were present.
Item 1: Call Meeting to Order

Craig Pritzlaff called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Item 2: Consider Approval of October 15, 2009, Minutes
?
Motion was made and carried approving the October 15, 2009, minutes.
Item 3: Citizens’ Forum
?
No citizens present.
Item 4: Discussion of Board Participation the City’s December 5 Holiday Parade
?
After discussion, the motion was made and carried to not participate in the parade
this year.
Item 5: Discussion of Adopt-a-Location Program
?
Cristal Rollins reported that there are two locations left for adoption, several groups
have expressed interest and renewals will go out in mid-December.
?
Shannon Olmstead reminded the board that KCB pick up will be this Saturday,
November 21 at 8:00 a.m. and donuts will be provided.
?
The board will decide at the January meeting on the next pick up date.
Item 6: Discussion of Green Team Program
?
Cristal Rollins reported that Clean Air Lawn Care joined the Green Team which
makes a total of 12 members.
Item 7: Discussion of Solid Waste Management, Including Regional Recycling
Opportunities (Chuck Dart)
?
Chuck Dart reported that at the January meeting Jennifer Vuteil will give the board
an overview of other programs in the region.

Chuck Dart presented information on www.freecycle.org. This organization began in
2004 with the purpose of reusing items rather than adding to landfills. The members
are confined to their local area (presently 4,854 groups) and can post items to give
away or to request items. Chuck Dart will contact Lewisville for more information on
their group. The board discussed the possibility of posting information on the Keep
Coppell Beautiful web page.

Cristal Rollins reviewed the Waste Management contract.
?
The board discussed taking a tour of the Waste Management facility or IESI L.E.E.D.
facility in McKinney.

Cristal Rollins reported that Amanda Vanhoozier could not make the meeting tonight
but will speak at the February meeting.
Item 8: Community Programs Report
1) Keep America Beautiful Awards –
KCB submitted nomination for Coppell

Community Garden. CCG won 2 place in national awards in the beautification
category for non-profit/civic/community organization category.
2) Recycling Carts –
“Make Your Cart Count” goals – 65% Participation Rate & 20%
Diversion Rate.

3) Tribute Trees update –
due to Parks Dept. policies, this is not a possible program.
4) E-Cycling Collection –
happened on Saturday. 150 people dropped off electronics for
recycling and 14,900 pounds were collected. Next event: Saturday, January 9, 9:00 to
noon, at Town Center.
5) Coppell Community Garden
– 14,000 pounds have been donated to Metrocrest, so
far this year. Youth volunteer hours at the garden end on Saturday, Nov. 21. Education
Committee concluded their 2009 Education Series on Saturday with a Rain Barrel Class.
The committee had 726 people attend their classes for the year and will start up their
education classes again in January.
6) Coppell Farmers Market
– 2009 season closes November 21. There will be 3
“Winter Market” dates – January 16, February 20 and March 20 and reopen for 2010
season in April.
7) Master Composter Seminar –
16 people attended.
8) TXDOT Landscape Project
– Freeport/635 project is underway.
9) Upcoming Events
– December 5, 6:30 p.m., Holiday Parade & Celebration/Tree
Lighting. (Parade is on Parkway between Samuel and Town Center, celebration at Town
Center Plaza immediately following parade.)
