COPPELL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
March 3, 2010
MINUTES
The Coppell Economic Development Committee met at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at
Coppell Town Center, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas 75019. The
following were present: Bill Rohloff, Gary Roden, Amanda O’Neal, Bradley Snyder, Don Carroll,
Kenneth Luttmer, James Walker, Greg Jenkins, Mary Ciminelli, Mindi Hurley, and Scarlett Hovland.
Call to Order

With a quorum present, Bill Rohloff called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: February 3, 2010

It was moved by James Walker and seconded by Kenneth Luttmer that the minutes of the
February 3, 2010 meeting be approved. The motion passed unanimously.
Consideration of a Request for Incentives for Project Performance

Mindi advised that Project Performance manufactures metallic catalytic converters and
metal substrates for diesel and gas fueled engines.
Project Performance manufacturing would move into an existing building located in
Coppell.
Mindi advised that the project does not meet the minimum threshold for incentives.
Discussion followed.
It was moved by Gary Roden and seconded by Bradley Snyder that the request for
incentives for Project Performance be denied. The motion passed unanimously.
Web-Site Discussion

Mindi presented and introduced the City’s new website.
Mindi reviewed the Economic Development page on the City’s website. It was suggested
that the following might be added: Economic Development Committee members listed,
Top employers in Coppell, New Businesses being developed or opened, vacant land
available, and Information on the 2030 vision.
Mindi assigned specific websites to each member to review. She asked that they review
the content on each site that could be incorporated onto our web page.
Members will report back on their website content material at the April meeting.
5. Business Retention Discussion
Mindi advised that a breakfast is planned for area business leaders and brokers on April 22
at the Hard Eight BBQ Restaurant in Coppell beginning at 8 a.m. The breakfast will be
hosted by the Economic Development Committee and Coppell Chamber of Commerce. A
representative from North Lake College will speak on resources that are available to
businesses through the college. The Coppell Chamber will mail the invitations with an
rsvp request. City Council and City staff will be invited to attend. Mindi will order golf
ball and tee sets with the City logo for give-a-ways. The Chamber will provide the door
prizes through business connections.
Discussion followed.
It was suggested that an agenda be prepared and to provide time for questions and
answers.
It was also suggested that a survey be prepared for other topic requests for future
meetings.
Chamber of Commerce Update

Mary Ciminelli advised that Thom Hulme’s term will end with the Chamber in March.
Kristie Green will serve as the new chairperson. She will also serve as the chamber liaison
for the Economic Development Committee.
Mary shared that approximately 300 guests attended the Gala.
The Coppell Chamber 2010 Business Referral Guide has been mailed to the citizens.
School District Update

The City of Coppell and Coppell ISD hosted a Town Hall style meeting on Tues., Mar. 2,
to update the community on the North Lake / Cypress Waters development.
Approximately 100 citizens were in attendance.
New Tech High had registration on February 27 for the 2010 – 2011 school year. The
registration process was implemented through first-come, first-serve and lottery drawing.
General Discussion and Update on Commercial and Industrial Projects

Mindi reviewed agenda items for the Development Review Committee.
Mindi reviewed projects under construction and businesses that are now open or opening
soon.
Mindi advised that the City of Coppell advertisement was designed for the D Magazine
special edition. The one page ad will focus on Coppell’s proximity to the airport. Contact
opportunities will be listed on the ad that will allow people to visit a special Economic
Development page on the City’s website that is being designed specifically for this
campaign. The magazine will be sent this summer to over 300,000 targeted CEO’s and
CFO’s across the country to highlight the region as the Super Bowl approaches next year.
Mindi shared that the City and Duke Realty Corporation were nominated for a Dallas
Business Journal Award for the American Home Mortgage project as one of the best
developments of the year. We did not win; however, to be recognized was high praise for
our economic development efforts and our partner developers.
With no further business to discuss, it was moved by Bradley Snyder and seconded by Kenneth
Luttmer that the meeting adjourn. By unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
