RE: First Meeting and Background Information
Welcome to the Coppell Education Development Corporation Board. As you know, we are attempting to
establish a meeting for the week of October 15. Please contact Kathy Bowling at (972) 304 -3618 with your
availability if you have not already done so.
The real purpose of this letter are threefold. One, I am attaching copies of the applications that you submitted
for membership on the CEDC to provide you some familiarity with whom your partners in this endeavor will be.
Secondly, I would also like to point out that there is an article in the Wednesday Dallas Morning News Metro
section, which I am attaching, that states that the decision has already been made to fund elementary school
Spanish programs. Once again, we have never been contacted by the press regarding this situation, and yet
rumors turned into media reality.
Finally, as we prepare for our meeting the week of October 15, one of the main issues will be establishing a
grant period and funding pattern. Of particular concern administratively at this point is when the grants will be
made, and should they coincide with school years, or should they be made at random points during the school
year.
At our initial meeting I will be reviewing with you our estimates of revenues available, as well as sharing with
you some thoughts regarding grant periods, etc. Our first payments on our new sales tax will be provided to the
City through the State of Texas Comptroller's Office in mid- to late February of 2002. Estimates at this time,
and a better estimate will be provided to you in October, is that there will be approximately $1.2 million
available during the initial year of this program.
If you have any other questions regarding the CEDC or its operations, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Than you in advance for your interest and cooperation.
