COPPELL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
April 7, 2010
MINUTES
The Coppell Economic Development Committee met at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Coppell
Town Center, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 255 Parkway Boulevard, Coppell, Texas 75019. The following
were present: Bill Rohloff, Gary Roden, Amanda O’Neal, Bradley Snyder, Don Carroll, Kenneth Luttmer,
David Apple, James Walker, Greg Jenkins, Mary Ciminelli, Christi Greene, Matt Hall, Clay Phillips,
Mindi Hurley, and Scarlett Hovland.
Call to Order
1.
With a quorum present, Bill Rohloff called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: March 3, 2010

It was moved by Bradley Snyder and seconded by Amanda O’Neal that the minutes of the
April 7, 2010 meeting be approved. The motion passed unanimously.
Web-Site Discussion

Mindi reviewed suggestions made by the committee members in regards to designing the
Economic Development Web-Site. Discussion followed.
It was suggested that the following might be added: Economic Development Committee
members listed, location of Coppell, top employers in Coppell, new Businesses being
developed or opened, vacant land available, frequently asked questions, tax rates, how to
start a business and links to other organizations and restaurants.
Mindi will meet with City staff in regards to what links are permitted. Mindi advised that
City staff will only be providing a link to individual businesses. Each business must
maintain their own website.
Mindi will draft a web page for the committee to review.
Mindi will meet with Gary Kingman, graphic artist next week regarding collateral
materials.
Business Retention Discussion

Mindi shared the invitation for the Corporate Appreciation Breakfast planned for area
business leaders and brokers on April 22 at the Hard Eight BBQ Restaurant in Coppell
beginning at 8 a.m. The breakfast will be hosted by the City of Coppell and Coppell
Chamber of Commerce. Presenting speakers will be:
Mayor Jayne Peters, City of Coppell
Beverly Widner, President, Coppell Chamber
Donna Carpenter, Career & Technology Education Coord, Coppell ISD
Dr. Paul Kelemen, VP – Community & Economic Develop., North Lake College
Shannon Weaver, Dean of Workforce Development & Training, North Lake College
Lynne Smith-Brush, Office & Inormation Tech. Faculty, North Lake College.
Mindi provided a sample of the Coppell logo golf ball and tee sets for give-a-ways at the
breakfast.
A representative from North Lake College will speak on resources that are available to
businesses through the college. The invitations will be mailed with an rsvp request. Mindi
will order golf ball and tee sets with the City logo for give-a-ways. The Chamber will
provide the door prizes through business connections.
Mindi encouraged the Economic Development Committee members to attend.
Incentive Discussion

Mindi reviewed incentives offered by other area cities.
Mindi advised that BWR Corporation will conclude the case study for the retail corners at
the end of the month.

Chamber of Commerce Update

Christi Greene advised that the Teen Leadership Graduation will be included with the
April luncheon.
Christi shared the Chamber’s enthusiasm of hosting the Corporate Appreciation Breakfast
with the City.
School District Update

David Apple reviewed the finances for the Coppell School District.
David advised that a special tax election will be held in September.
General Discussion and Update on Commercial and Industrial Projects

Mindi advised Rosa’s Café is scheduled to open on April 15.
Mindi shared that the Senior and Community Center at Grapevine Springs is now open.
Mindi advised that the Kolberg’s will modify the original development and are seeking
financing.
Mindi shared that Samsung Telecommunications had their ribbon cutting on March 29.
The Mayor spoke along with representatives of Samsung. A facility tour and a reception
followed the ribbon cutting.
Mindi reviewed projects under construction and businesses that are now open or opening
soon.
With no further business to discuss, it was moved by Kenneth Luttmer and seconded by Bradley
Snyder that the meeting adjourn. By unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
